99 Honda Saber speaker upgrade

Well, I finally got around to doing the rest of the doors with the Polk 5 1/4 component set. This time, I set out to do the rear, which was a daunting task, as I wanted to keep a clean look and not surface mount the tweeters. Here are the results.

Left rear door (for me, this is the passenger side)

Right rear door.

Now, to cut the holes, you'll need a hole saw of 2". I had one but the sizes were 1 7/8" and 2 1/8". It's better to use the smaller one and use a Dremmel (don't have one, yet). Anything bigger won't fit.

Basically, the hole saw will go through the plastic quite quickly and screw up your fabric speaker cover. What I did was drill until the center drill bit "just" pierced the cover. I then used an Exacto knife and cut about a 1 " hole around my pilot hole. I then held the fabric away as I cut, so I had a lot of excess. Once I got the hole right for the cutout, the cup for the tweeter snugged up the fabric as I put it in.

This is where I mounted the crossover. If you take apart the door, and look at the area right behind the arm rest, there is a plastic brace that it can screw into.

This is yours truly before the cutting began.

Comments and questions are welcome.......

JDM Parts

Arigato gosimasu....

Actually, the best way to see that stuff is on Yahoo Auctions. You have to know some Japanese to get the most out of it. Here's a link:

http://list1.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp...-category.html

Now, on the area on the left side of the screen where you can type, type in UA4 (my car with the 2.5L motor), or UA5 and you'll see all you need. The prices are in yen, no shipping. And of course, all prices, once finalized, need to include 30 to 50% the US will charge for import duty. With other countries, this will vary.

Oh, and divide all prices by 120, and you will be very close to the US dollar amount.....Happy shopping.

Wakata.....Kind of

I don't speak much Japanese, but the rest of my family does so I understood what you asked me. The yahoo site can get some new performance stuff, but the stuff from the old cars are from strip yards / junk yards. You can also try Goo-net ( http://www.goo-net.com/index.html ), but I only look there for new cars (I almost bought a 2005 Accord Euro R, but it costs too much for a K20A that's front drive, 6 speed be damned).

There's always the Honda website, but Modulo (their add on parts brand name) items are VERY expensive.

Another shot....

Here are the actual speakers before I began:

I like the way they sound, but I now have to get an amp to drive them properly.....I noticed a funny thing while poking around in the trunk. Behind the DVD unit was, what I believe, is the antenna interface. On there it has 3 RCA jacks, so I naturally hooked into them to see what they did.

They are an input, and I access it through the TV function on my navigation unit. Do US models have this? I don't know if its a Japan only thing...

I'm sure that is a Japan only feature. So since it has RCA inputs, does that mean you can hook up a DVD player and watch it over the TV function? No need for the DVD mod which would be very cool.

With a DVD it works....

Yes, it does work with a DVD player hooked up to it. On the TV screen, I get a VTR screen button. Once I push it, the DVD would be on screen. I'd like this so I could have an external MP3/DVD capable input.

The thing I have to find out is how to defeat the safety switches that kill the TV video when I am in drive, or with the engine on (With it in park, but the engine on, the e-brake activation will turn ont he screen. Once I go to drive, it kicks out.

Anyone know which wires to bypass to get the screen to stay on? Even with the Navigation unit, some buttons "gray out" so they can't be used while driving. If not, I'll dig into the dash.......

wow, its so weird to see our cars with cloth seats! by the way is the UA4 considered as a luxury sedan in Japan? or is it more of a Mid size family car like something along the lines of a Accord/Camry?
