hi im new here i just bought a 1999 Tafeta white ( i think) Acura TL, and i was doing some reading on this site and would like to do the 2003 conversion, i just have a dumb question, i tried using the search but maybe i dont know wht keyword to out on it, anyways i was wondering what do i need exactly for the conversion? i know i need the lights, bumper hood, grill, but as i was looking for the fenders many sites have the fenders but it says it will fit 99-2003!!! so im confuse, maybe i could use the same fender i have? what do you guys think? im getting some money soon and i wanna paint my car black and do the conversion at the same time, im already working on getting the lights, bumper, hood grill, but I'm just a bit confused about the fenders.......here are some pics of my car:



and another question is this HID? caz they look orange?

I dont get what you mean by is this hid? The car comes stock with hids

 

i don't get why you didn't just buy an 02-03 black tl.. For the amount of money its gonna cost to convert it and paint it u could have just gotten an 02-03 black tl

thank you! ok this car comes with HID already but how come at night the lights look orange?!!? and they are not brightenough like the BMW, i really hate the way they look! i noticed that one side looks more orangeish than the other....what could be the problem should i replace the bulbs?? and how much would it be for new bulbs where do i get them? brand etc???

thanks!! but ummmm does that mean i just need to get a higher bulb? and if so where do i get it from or are all the HID bulbs pretty much the same? i really dont wanna get a whole new kit if the car already comes with HID and how do i change the bulb it has a label that reads "high voltage blah blah blah".....

as hids get older they start to wear out. as they do they start to turn a pinkish color. Sounds like yours are just getting old. Stock is 4300k they produce the most useable light. you will want to stay as close to that as you can. Our vendors sell them. They arent hard to change. You just need a # 20 security torx head.

Id recommend disconnecting the battery (but only if you have the radio code and the navi code if you have navi)

 

i dont have no NAVI or Stock Radio...........so about the conversion you guys think it will be easy? i can do all the labor, i just wanna know exaclty what parts do i need and stuff and if have to weld anything?!!?

 

Id ask the ones that have done it for sure, but i think the only thing that needs to be modified is the hood latch support??

 

well i just did the conversion n i had 2 change bumper,headlights,fenders hood,grill,radiator support,and the hood lock oh also i bought the fog lights but that is optional.

 

cool did you do the install your self? was it hard? did u have to change anything else?

i already got the headlights and the grill, so the fenders need to be changed right? what else do i need? do you have any pics?

if u know how to weld a little bit u could do it. the only part that is hard is cutting the old one cuz u have to be careful u dont cut the sides just the front of the rad support.

 

Your car does have HIDs the reason why they may look yellow is because of number of hours on the bulbs, replace them if you have to, HID bulbs loose their output over their lifespan. Also the 02-03 headlights use different ballasts/ignitors compared to the 99-01.

 

that and the 99-01 have a diffuser in front of the bulb

ballast will work. bulbs for the headlights are different

lol no im not trying to do all that.....im done with fixing up cars, i got a baby now, so im just gonna put a mean audio system some 19" rims and the 2003 front end and thats it :P lol the cars has 150876 miles

Honestly, with that amount of mileage you might as well enjoy the car for what it is. The amount of money your gonna put into the car for the conversion your better off putting in the audio and rock the car till the wheels fall off. I did the 02/03 conversion on my 99 TLP and it was a long process, alot of money went into getting it right. Just my 2 cents.....

 

true but ur car looks sooo cool huh? does anyone have a write up on how to move the latch? with pictures and stuff....lol i almos got all my parts for the conversion and so far i've spent like 250 on parts......all i need is the fenders and hood :P

 

oh forget the Conversion man, Instead put the money to good use, Blackout those lights and use that money for a supercharger or somethin... PLEASSEE!!!

 

i would agree with you guys but, im doing all the labor myself and im gonna have the car painted for free, so i really dont see why not, i got most of the parts needed for the conversion, i know how to weld all i need to know is how to relocate that latch and im set.....help pls

Sorry i cant help you with all that body work. Total No0b. But there are EXPERTS here will be willing to help you. But Post some pictures though

 

There's the obvious:

-fenders
-hood
-headlights
-bumper
-grille assy
-fog lights (not necessary)

Then there's:

-whole bumper beam has to be raised like an inch
-hood insulator (not necessary)
-type-197 parking lights harnesses + bulbs (not necessary)
-headlights support/brackets
-hood latch needs modifications
-bumper "absorber foam"
-headlights will have to be shimed to fit
-HID ballasts are not the same but you can just use the 99s and mount them somewhere else than under the headlights.
-1999 front lip will not fit (if so equipped)
-other minor items...

 

i just finally got done and it was more than what i thought even the bumper support is different the hood cable and alot of little pieces
