2nd gen TL body swap with 3rd gen TL
I actually have a crazy idea. I'm thinking about buying 3rd gen tl body panels and fitting them to a 2nd gen tl. I know it's gonna take some fabrication but I think it could work.

It's not gonna cost that much. I can get the body parts for around $2000. And I love the look if the 3rd gen and don't have the $10,000 to buy one. So that's why I want to try and convert it

as far as, like the front and rear ends being swapped, it still is not going to look right, for the doors, roof line and such (cause you are going to have to cut the doors apart and add the groove like on the 3g, so a total repaint basically)
so i just see it is not even worth to look at trying to do it (but i do see your reasoning behind wanting to do it some, cause $$$ is tight); let alone lets just say you ever want to sell the car, what is it going to be worth, with so much body work done to it, basically nothing compared to a unmolested 2g
and i see it as, it will still never be a 3g, and more then likely you will probably be made fun of, for being a 3g wanna-be
and if the head light projectors are what you are after, the stock 2g one's can be retrofitted quite easily, especially compared to a complete body rework
or led tail lights, people have cut the stock 2g ones apart, and put a circuit board with leds on it, in there before
edit: i also don't know what type of shape your 2g is in, but i am probably going to be able to sell it for 4-5k at least, then you add in the $2k worth of parts (and i am assuming that is not even including any paint, or various clips and what not, but just major parts), PLUS labor (i know it may be a hobby, so it may not be as much of an factor for you), so by the time you start looking at selling the 2g, and getting EVERYTHING to do the swap, you are starting to get real close to that $10k mark (and that is not even including resale value if needed)

Wow. That was alot but you are right. But what I really love about the 3G is the front end, i.e the front bumper, headlight, hood, headlights. If I just converted the front end do you think it would be worth it?

personally i like the look of the OEM kit the best. it changes the whole look of the car and isnt too crazy looking of a kit to where it would take away from the look of the car like a wide body kit would. then theres the wings west kit too and a bunch of others but their pretty much discontinued. (value, skp, blaze?) someone correct me if im wrong but those are just a few.

^+1. those are the few. but the best looking lipkit on our cars would obviously be the oem lipkit. nothing can or will beat it. you can also add the ronjon splitter kit to that list. i personally would have the oem front lip, oem side skirts, and a WW rear lip.

Don't do it man. 3g parts belong on a 3g, not on a 2g. If you are thinking about a body kit, go look at the Thread "Ugly TL" In the 2g photo section, then ask yourself again if you think any kit is worth it? The factory lip is probably the only way to go. I am somewhat of a noob when it comes to kit for our cars, others may chime in but I like the factory body style. Good luck.
