So btw all. I am not too big a man to admit I was wrong.. not wrong in telling some people they were douche bags but, wrong in the fact that I should leave HID. After seeing one persons (who shall remain nameless, ;-)) clip about the differences between the different lighting technologies.. I have decided to go ahead and purchase another HID lit for my daughters car so... I want to hear recommendations for kits but more importantly, I want to know if you have legit stories of then lasting more than 2 or 3 years. Thanks all!!
I have no affiliation with TheRetrofitSource, I Buy from them and have had good luck with their products!
Rather expensive, but their products DO last more than 3 years.
I use their Morimoto line.
I have also used their LED fog lights (misnomer since they dont really work as fog lights) to add extra lighting to a Nissan Frontier. Brother complained he couldnt see with the stock halogen bulbs and instead of retrofitting, just added the LED fog lights, Which are bright enough to work as additional lighting.

Due to my own stupidity, I mounted the ballast under an A/C line and the condensation from the line seeped into the ballast, if it werent for that..the HID's would still be operational today.
it made it 5 years before the water seeped into the ballast.
interested in the '73 challenger! Care to show it?
pops handed me the keys to a 2010 challenger SRT8 in 2010 and said he was leaving the country for a month.
the thing didnt even have 500 miles on it. lol
I too can vouch for TheRetroFitSource's Morimoto line. The entire project ended up being around $500 or so on my '99. Mine have only been installed for about a year now but they seem pretty hardy - I went through a puddle that splashed enough to get water on my TDC sensor and stop the engine a few times, but the HID ballasts didn't even blink and I'm sure they got a fair soaking through that.
I had forgotten until the video was posted earlier in this thread, but I saw that exact same video on LED vs Halogen vs HID in projectors, which helped me make my choice for this project.

Skoots, I have an aftermarket HID kit I purchased back in, IIRC'ly 2010 + / - to replace the crapped out OEM's on my CL-S6 and they still function perfectly to this day.
It's going to take me some searching, though, here to try and narrow down the exact kit. I'll post it up if I'm successful.
Before chiming in though, I was having a difficult time reconciling, for the sake of your daughters ability to see effectively at night, why you would down grade versus just trying to find another HID kit that would get the car through the next few years. There are adequate aftermarket HID alternatives out there, it's just a matter of finding a good one. Good to hear you are willing to give the HID's another look.

"Those aren't mountains..."
What kind of puddles are you driving through?!

340/416 stroker She in storage right now. Needs a few things I cant afford due to 2 kids in college.
I do however play with my boat just about every weekend. ;-)
Well I decided to keep going with my theory that a cheap bulb could do the job and I was mostly correct. Ended up buying some mid grade H7's. Went in with a little trial, no trimming, no modification. Actually match the fogs and stock highs exactly. My daughter always hated the blue color of the lows. I actually think the H7's are brighter than the aftermarket HID's. Heres a few pics, not that good of pics but my cell isnt the best.
Since you got the fogs the same color, you might be able to cheat a little and angle the headlights up a few ticks to get more light coverage on street. Sounds like you found a solution that works for you. Good job.
Its actually every bit as good as the HID's were. Of course the blue base seemed to be a bit brighter but 30 bucks for 2 bulbs that will probably outlast the car, I'm cool with that. Just wish I didnt have to drill such a big hole in the rear cover for the POS HIDS. Now I had to shove a 1/4 tube of silicone in to plug the damn holes where now 2-12g wires run.

should have used wire/cable glands instead You drill a hole, twist the gland in, and then thread the wire through the gland

Couldnt use that on the HID. The lead had 2 big weather pack fittings. When I drilled out the stock holes they were so close to the edge I was unable to drill a round hole so a grommet or gland wouldn't work.
