XS Headers hiss

Ever since I had my headers put on...they make a hissing noise when you step on the gas...is it suppose to do that? It's completely quiet idling...but when I step on the gas it hisses...like I have a supercharger almost. What's wrong?

I reused the old gaskets....bought new grade 8.8 bolts to replace the ones that came with the headers.....

We didn't hear any leaks after installing the headers. From inside the car it's quiet, there seems to be a tiny tiny bit of resonance during high revs. It's probably less than a second long lol...but you can hear the hiss from outside or if you open up the windows.

We had to heat and bend the big bottom pipe a little bit to make it fit because the alignment was off by one of the heads. Everything is tight too.

I found this doing a search...can anyone confirm this?

i got the batch 4s and for the price u cant beat it, the hissing/resonance is there due to the fact instead of heavy cast iron like the stocks, you are using ligh stainless steel, try headerwrap to lower the sound a bit and be happy u gained some extra power without dropping your whole bank account on some over priced comptechs
Also the hissing sound was stated in many threads as the result of utilizing a deiffernt type of metal. It has nothing to do with leak.
They're talking about Megans but still SS headers.

header wrap wont help-that only keep the heat inside the exhaust so the engine bay doesnt get too hot. u shouldnt have bent any pipes, they all come prebent,

But they wouldn't fit lol...I didn't wanna shove em in place because I'm afraid there would be alot of pressure and problems in the long run so we heated it a little bit on the bent part of the big pipe and slowly bent it to fit on the the header. It was off by about 1/2 inch.

I just checked it again...turned the engine on and it's quiet.....I revved it and didn't hear any hiss....I have to take it on the road a bit I guess. I just hope this won't have problems in the future.

They're $100 headers. Of course they arent going to be perfect.

But do you know if this hurts the car or performance?

performance..barely. But would the problem get worse..maybe. I had megans, and its been a long time. But I just recently bought myself a set of XS power headers, and the welding and steel that they use look similar to all the XS power headers/manifolds. But they are set to last quite awhile. I wouldn't worry about it, but for me..the TL is my commuter car..I want it to be as quiet as possible. I would retighten it again...loosen them and tighten em again. then see if that helps. You'll probably have a marginal lost or if anything nothing in performance. So don't worry.

The car is still quiet as hell with the windows up...you can hear the hiss when u open the windows.

I did a google search on this problem and it seems to be common. Most people say it's just the air passing through the headers...some say it went away after a couple weeks...I'll just see what happens I guess hehe.

A leak would be a ticking sound The sound he hears is from the thinner metal and the flex pipe. There is probably nothing wrong with them Try wrapping the flex pipe with header wrap to see if it makes it quieter. If it does either live with it or have an exhaust shop weld on a better flex pipe.

Nothing you would notice....if you don't mind it, its all good.

I managed to fix mine by ordering a new flex pipe and tacking it on the headers.

I got a new flex pipe welded in and it still didn't fix the resonance...

We are talking the hiss. Im surprised that didnt take care of the resonance. Unless welding it in tweaked it again. Is every thing lined up properly?

Oh I can live with it if it's normal lol...I like the noise....You can't hear it from inside the car at all.

Just got back from outta town....drove the TL again for a quick cruise around the freeway...Well that hiss sound is basically non-existant now. I dunno why. Well the car is all nice and silent again hehe.

I floored it a few times on the freeway to over 6k.....I can definitely feel it pull harder than stock.
