Angry wtf is this noise?!

I noticed today at a red light with the car in drive, a noise that seems to sound like a marble just sitting on top of my engine cover just vibrating.. Its comming from the center of the dashboard.. Wierd thing is that without moving if I push the shifter into neutral it completely stops. Its driving me absoutley bannanas.. It also does it slightly when I give it gas at a certian point, any less or any more pressure on the pedal will make it stop.. what the hell is this?

I think the noise is coming from the dash board. Put pressure on top of the dash board where the center air vent is. I get a vibrating noise now and than and when I push the dash board down the vibrating noise goes away.

If I put it in neutral you cant hear it but as soon as I put it in gear I can hear that noise again...When Im driving I can hear it below 2500 rpms after that either it goes away or the engine over power the noise...Im stumped too...

If the noise you are experiencing is what 99TLHeather mentions above, then the good news is that it is fixable...

I had this noise, and the service tech installed some insulation underneath the center of the dash (he had to take the dash apart to get to it... It's nice and quiet now... (well, at least that particular noise is gone...I stilll have a couple of noises that I am working to get resolved)...

A valve tick is just what it sounds like, there is a constant ticking - Although I thought the TL engines were so smooth that you would never hear a tick. FYI, if its a valve tick you should be listening under the hood, not always inside the car. You would hear it outside and know what it is if you heard it. HOWEVER, there is another sound that sounds like a valve tick except its coming from the driver's side of the firewall down low someplace. I do not know the name of the device (cheer in fella's because I know we all have it) ....perhaps thats what you are hearing? If its inside the car I guess its only when the engine is running? If its very loud perhaps you have a knocking a more severe issue. leaking headers? that would also make a loud noise. Help me out here, I'm out of ideas.
Please give us more input so someone can help you. A ticking noise is a little broad. try turning on and off things like your A/C and see if the noise changes. Make sure you know what part of the car it's associated with.
Let us know
good luck also

It means they need to be adjusted. It’s a common thing with Honda especially on Accords(even Toyotas). Did you ever see those older accords that blow smoke out their tailpipe? That’s what happens eventually by the time they hit 200k because they never took the car in to have the service done.
I used to pay $60 at the Honda dealer.

Crombie, isn’t that noise you’re talking about on the passenger side? It’s some kind of plunger. I know they were talking about it under the “problems & fixes” sub forum.
