wrong transmission??

The transmission failed on my 2001 TL with 96k on it and Acura denied any good will assistance. I purchased a rebuilt tranmission that matched my current one, the B7WA and had it shipped to my local mechanic to do the replacement. The local guy called today and said that it's the wrong one because there is no where for the speedometer sensor to bolt on to.
The seller of the rebuilt thinks it could be my 2001 may have been actually a 2000 since it was manufactured in September of 2000. I don't know what to think except this is costing me more money Wouldn't both years need a place for the speedometer?
Any ideas?

Speedometer is thru various speed sensors, 00-03 TL-P all used the same trans, as long as the one you got is for a 5 speed and not the 99 4 speed.

Wasn't there a post several months ago about someone who had a gearbox that had the speed sensitive steering (TL-P) but had a TL-S that didn't (or vice versa)? I seem to remember the speed sensitive steering attaches (along with hydraulic lines) where the speed sensor used to attach?

So is there an actual hole into the transmission where the speed sensor is attached? The rebuilt one has the B7WA sticker on it like the broken one.

Where did you buy the rebuilt one from?

A rebuilder out of Brooklyn and had it shipped to the repair shop. Having these two guys in different states isn't going to help my situation. After buying this car and having the transmission fail my budget for repair is woefully small.

You got a type-s trans.

The TL-Ps had the spot for the variable assist steering (not a speed sensor) and the type-s did not. You can use the trans but you have to bypass it. I would contact the place you got it though and get the correct unit.
