Writing a DIY

Is there anything in particular that I need to consider when writing a DIY for here? I've been doing all this work on my car lately, and I figured it's time I write a DIY. Everyone here has been extremely helpful so I'd like to contribute some knowledge as well.

I'm planning to inspect and probably replace my under-hood and cabin air filters. But I think there are plenty of resources covering those. I was thinking maybe when I do some other work I will write one.

Is there anything specific that makes a DIY really helpful? I'll take pics. I'll explain as best as I can. Anything else?

Most people in need of a DIY require pics, lots of pics with fairly detailed instructions.

several 8 by 10 color glossy photographs with circles and arrows showing the part, whats near the part, whats not the part!
with a paragraph below each picture telling what its about, what tools (pics of tools too) time needed for task, pics of dead part showing burns or other concerns/failure modes

that's going to help someone struggling to find or understand a situation,
reducing fear of the car is good!

have a look in the current official gen2 diy , 4th item down main list
it 2 threads contain all the diy links by subsection
the cabin filter and engine filter are there
but you might do one on the intake snout to TB- remove to clean the TB air plate

read thru for any projects you have planned and get a sense of what questions get posted after diy goes up! after you submit your new one to a mod like fsttyms1, it goes to a few other mods who read-change-approve or send back for changes etc etc
one day it gets posted then officially moved to the diy section for all of time to use~

note on cabin filter diy- do not need dremel to cut small tabs if first time in 13 years that filters getting changed! kitchen scissors do fine, then bend back and forth to break cleanly off- its made to

Cool, thanks! That's what I figured. No problem! With pics, I have no problem. I own a modern Canon DSLR so the clarity will definitely exist. And I'm very particular about my work
I never start on a project without plenty of research and plenty of knowledge going into it. Sounds good. I'll probably post my first DIY in the next month or two!

Having part numbers for factory parts can help a lot, as well as a list of the tools required.

Make sure to include any small details that a novice would miss.

Eg: Like greasing a boot when you're using a tool on it to prevent tearing it. .
Or using a proper mock up before mounting LED's so you know if they work in a particular patter since some are polarized.
Or if a bolt is making a ball joint spin, use grip pliers to hold it in place and make sure you don't grind all the threads away.

Just general info you used to solve your problem.

I don't necessarily think that it won't already have a DIY. But maybe I'll have a slightly different approach from what's already there, or maybe my write-up will offer more information to someone who doesn't fully understand an existing DIY.

shhhh..... As we sleep, Fsttyms1 is planning his next "500" HP AWD project for our 2nd Gen models. A bit of ingenuity and some fabrication is all it takes !!!

Maybe not a "Vette" motor.....but none the less, capable of blowing some Corvette doors right off the hinges. ha, hah. sleep with one eye open !!!
