Post wow...TL is a gas guzzler in city driving...

I was on spring break last week and thus did not have to drive 50miles of highway everyday. When I did drive, I just went around town and hardly used the freeway. I got maybe 25% freeway at most as opposed to my ~80% freeway on school days. In doing so much city driving I had my first ever sub 300 tank of gas since my break-in days. I followed that up with a 302.5 tank. I filled up only after the gas light came on. This shocked me cuz I drive pretty conservatively with gas saving in mind. Anyways, Im back in school now and should be hitting 360 and above with a tank now.

I only get 200 miles driving strictly side streets in LA. It's kinda sad.

Damn, 360? I do almost strictly city driving, except on weekends, and I am lucky if I break 275

I drove a 1976 Camaro before this with a 4 barrel 350 in it. I got about 20 feet to the gallon in that car, so I am pleased with the 23-25 MPG I get now.

I get approximately 300-320 when the lights comes on. I will take more accurate readings from now on. The bad...or should I say the good thing is it only takes me 15 minutes to get to work. 5 minutes just getting out of my damn apartment...they got about 10 road bumps since I live waaayyy inside.

I would LOVE to get 300 per tank in the city. My fuel light usually comes on around 200 mi after a filling if I do no highway driving.

Maybe your version of "city driving" doesn't include a red light or stop sign every single block, with always at least 2 or 3 cars in front of you...

When this happens, we will all have to drive cars like this. Noooooo!!

A parallel hybrid petrol-electric powertrain for medium-size cars, developed by engineers at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), achieved combined highway and urban average fuel economy of 79 miles per U.S. gallon.

The PECOS powertrain accelerates a vehicle with a mass of 1,265 kilograms from zero to 60 miles per hour in 14.9 seconds.

Its simple design consists of off-the-shelf components, including a 40 kW (peak), one-litre spark ignition engine, a 53 kW (peak) and 32 kW (continuous) permanent magnet brushless DC motor, a power splitting planetary gear box, and a lead acid battery pack (312 volt bus).

The PECOS system has several advantages over conventional powertrains. It does not require a clutch to launch the vehicle. The engine does not require a starter, since the electric motor starts the engine. Finally, no transmission is required except for a differential.
