Is it worth it?

I live in San Diego!

Right now I found a Used ACURA CL TYPE-S 6-Speedo for nothing less than 3K! In Tijuana, México!

Car has 78,000 miles on the odo and the owner has its title and will give me its vin to check its not stolen!

My question for you Acuraziners that have done the Swap! Is it cost effective? I mean it has everything for the swap? I can just roll in to my garage and to a bolt-on swap in to my TL? heck even the engine has less miles than mine but I would just save the engine for another project..

What can you tell me about it? should I pull the trigger?

FYI: I already have an AV6 auto trans laying around waiting for my AUTO to die.. But I don't want to spend 3K in a car to then notice I need more money for something to do the swap.

Yea dude it's easy as hell. And the full car has every part you could possibly need. And you WILL have to use that car's engine, as it is a bit different from the auto engine. You could convert auto to manual easily, but why bother when you have one with less miles?

It's easier to just yank the engine and tranny together, so it's pretty easy. I had zero experience before I did the swap, and I thought it was pretty easy.

Only custom stuff you will need is a bracket for the clutch pedal. You can use the car without the bracket, but try to get a bracket before you use the car for more than a couple weeks.

All the wiring to get the car started is plug and play. No custom modification necessary for the main stuff. However, stuff like moonroof will need to be repinned. Easy job, but you can save it for after the swap if you want.

Since the TL is ma main car I need to get that Bracket stuff sorted out..

You mean the holes that must be done in the TL chassis to fit the clutch pedal?

I was pretty sure the laws in California doesn't let me ride a different serial number engine in my car, Thus I wanted to keep my engine since I have a clean maintenance schedule on it since 2002..

I didn't know there was a pin need to be re-pin in the swap.. Sounds easy much for me to do none-the-less.

I have to talk to my bank (cough*wife*cough) and see if I can grab the money.. Lets see how that goes tomorrow!

Thanks Karanx for the Reply bud! Much appreciated.

Hey man, the CL-S 6 sounds like a bargain with that low mileage. Even if you're not ready for the swap into your TL, buy it and run it as is !!!

Its WELL worth it. Its the best mod you would ever do. I only wish i had done it years sooner.

Why wouldnt cali let you have a different motor? What if you blew a rod in yours? You couldnt rebuild you would have to replace.

As for the bracket. its a bracket that attaches to the dash that helps stabilize the clutch pedal. There is some repinning that needs to be done but its easy. I can post my notes to help.

Not 100% certain, but I thought the law was you must replace with same year or newer--i.e. cannot put an older engine in the car.

Sounds like an awesome deal I have been looking at doing the same thing and found a wrecked (in the rear) cls6 for the same money. Plus you have all the leftovers to part out.

I was thinking the same thing! But right now I have a leftover of a Sand Rail (Always in Production by me) that need an engine And a J32A2 with AV6 Trans on it (I would like it to be manual but meh) would be fantastic on my Sand Rail.

California laws have been a little bit strict in that matter since a lot of the Honda scene guys have been building Race cars with stolen engines! Im pretty sure is a lot of heavy paper work to claim a new Serial Number into DMV in my TL.. Hence I wanted to swap the Trans only and leave the engine for my Sand Rail!..

My current engine is in pristine condition with 2x Timing belt changes and my Valve adjustment incoming end of the month, Changing the engine would be an Overkill..

Thanks but right now I cannot justify spending on the trans alone since I need a whole bunch of things to complete the swap that I don't have! Basically everything else..

Funny thing is they are selling the car as in Working order! Owner states that the car is even still riding with California plate! so it hasn't been imported to México. To my luck!

Well I started the push and pull sequence with my wife! I don't think the car will sell soon but 3K is 3K none-the-less... I just wish planets align and the gods are on my side to let my wife get me the car...

There is no way in hell anyone will be able to tell the engine is different than stock. It's a J32A2, same as your engine.

The Harvest Moon and Stars are aligning as we speak. May the Acura Gods shine upon your wishes and let your dear wifey see the light. Ya don't want to let that pristine opportunity go the wayside......maybe even offer the "Sand Rail" up as a sacrificial lamb ? There's gotta be a way to soften her heart and ya got the key !!!

this, although I was J32A1 before, I literally just smogged my car yesterday and I am 6MT true manual swapped in CA and passed smog with zero issues. Swap is well worth it in the long run no doubt about it.

I would do what ever it takes, having a complete cls6 that runs for you to take every thing you need and see exactly the position it came from. There is no butter way to swap IMO. Just get it you know you want to!

Wouldn't the CL-S be the lighter & quicker car than the TL-S even with both having the 6 speed manual???

I just don't like the styling on the CL-S as well as the TL-S though
