Worn Motor Mount?

Hi all. Recently, I brought my 03 TL-S (purchased in 02) in for repair after being involved in a minor accident where the vehicle behind me rear ended me. As a result, my car was brought in to have the bumper replaced. After being in the body shop for about a week. I get a call that my car is just about ready. But the lady that called also stated that the mechanic made a note on my ticket saying my motor mounts were worn (although she didn't say how worn they were). I guess my question is, is this normal given the age of my car ? Please to take into consideration that I have excessive miles on the car (just under 80,000 miles). Is this something I need to worry about and I guess I should assume that this is an expensive repair?

Yes - it's normal for mounts to go out (on every car - not just TLs). When I had my second tranny put in they had to also change out a mount (fortunately - under warranty).

Unfortunately - the hydraulic ones are kind'a expensive.

So do we actaully have hydraulic motor mounts? Do you happen to know what a repair like this would run?

I guess the other weird thing is that I just had my 75,000 mile service done at Acura not too long ago and they made no mention of this. Are they just pulling my leg?

Yes - the front and rear mounts are vacuum/hydraulic. The part itself runs about $100, and then you have to add labor.

Frankly, I don't know why a body shop is checking your engine mounts while your car is in for a small rear end fender bender. My advise is to say "no thanks" and take it somewhere else.

You know, and I should have mentioned it earlier, that is exactly what I was thinking when I got off the phone with them. All the work on my car was being done to the rear bumper. So, why the hell were they checking out my engine out? Would a bad engine mount be audible, or would you just feel more vibration from the engine? In any case, I told them that I would have Acura check it out for me. I'm thinking it was all

i first heard rattling and i thought it was something with the suspension because i had recently got the springs in...turns out it was the motor mount...the extended warranty does cover it if you have one though

The front hydraulic motor mount in my cl-s cost about $281 including labor, for the tl-s it might be around that as well.

The reason the body shop probably inspected them is because it VERY common for motor mounts to get broken in rear end accidents. It is also VERY common for the TL's front motor mount to go bad. They may not have actually inspected it when it was brought in, that may be why they never said it was bad. (hence brining car to dealer for routine maint usually = waste of money)

Thanks fsttyms1, I assume that you're referring to the Acura folks in the quote above, and you may very well be correct. I guess I was assuming they would have checked that on the last inspection mainly because of the mileage. But checking the motor mounts, like you said, may not have been part of the list. Thanks for the input though

41510TL thanks for the input. But let me throw my question out there again because I still haven't received and answer. Is there an audible noise when the motor mount has gone bad, or do you just feel more vibration in the car?
