wires on rear windshield

My TL came with some weird wiring and plastic on the rear windshield. Is it supposed to be there and what does it do? I don't see it on my honda accord.

That looks like satellite radio antenna.

My aunt has that in her car and they told her that it was so the wires don't get to hot and the dots will take in most of the sun. That looks normal though.

that makes me think of a built in wireless phone from the 90's. That cannot be a good install of whatever it was supposed to be. Say what?

a satellite radio antenna seems like the most reasonable explanation. i'll just leave it there, no big deal.

do you not have the small satellite radio antenna on the rear center of your roof? It is nearly rectangular in shape and matches the vehicle in color? This is making me curious now.

It's an aftermarket Sirius integration kit. It's of the type where you tune to a particular FM station. That wire is used to get a good signal to the FM antenna that's printed on the rear window.

I just don't understand why people do the FM modulator thing with sat radio. Just spend a little extra and get it hard wired - sat antenna to sat box to installed receiver/player. CD quality sound, no noise from FM modulation, no need for the extra exposed wiring to increase the quality of the FM modulation.

Yea, I'm with the rest of them, it seems to be an antenna for some device.
