Wiper problems
Heya,
The guy who bought my 1999 TL when i got myself the lovely RL is having some problems with the wipers (ones that i never noticed, but then again, it doesn't rain all that much here in LA).
Basically, you can move the wipers by hand. They also 'sweep' all the way to the side, hitting the edge of the window and all the way down, hitting the engine cover.
The dealership says that the entire assembly (!) needs to be replaced at a cost of $600, which seems a little odd to me.
Anybody have any experience with something like this and even better, how to fix it cheaply? (this guy doesn't have all that much cash).
Thanks,
Tracer

Mine are making a "THUNK" noise that is driving me batty... I heard that it is a defective design of some sort of washer or "ring" that becomes loose allowing the wiper arm to over-shoot and bang against the car at several points. I also was informed that this is a $22 DIY fix, however, I am going to take it to my trusted mechanic so that they can do it along with the busted motor mount and the defective throtle body. Do a search in the forum to learn more about this little defect.

I bought the wiper arm assembly for somewhere around 20-25 dollars. There are 2 arms, one on the passanger side & one on the drivers side. The one that goes bad is usually the drivers side assembly. Very simple to change.

200+50-600=350$ .. so u think they should charge 350

amazing how wide the spread (no pun) on prices is... I was thinking a bit over $200 for the whole ordeal (dealer prices). considering it is the whole assembly and $54.00 per hour of shop labor. Regardless, I am not sure I would want a lap dance from those New Mex dancers... Heck, where I live a beer costs more.
Peace...

look for a reliable dealer that won't charge you lots of $$$ for these wiper arms.
