Winter Start

It's been freaking cold in the mid-west, and I only have one key for my car. I was curious if we can start our cars, lock the doors, than open them once the car is nice and warm?

...first off man that is dangerous....and secondly ur asking for a ticket....if a cop rolls around and sees the car on with keys in the ignition and nobody inside, hes gonna wait fo yo ass to come out and give u a hefty ticket......or it would suck to come out and see ur car gone...it would only take a thief 5 seconds to break a window and jump in...

You can as long as you have another key. (at least with mine) the fob wont lock/unlock with the key in and car running) Id suggest getting another key, and if you want to be able to warm your car up safely id suggest a remote start.

And i would have told him to get the fawk off my property, he had no right being there. I would have also told him to write him self a ticket (cause i can guarantee his car was running without him in it.

haha

i'd invest in a remote start. hands down the best mod on my car. not the lip kit, not the coilovers, it's being able to start my car in my PJs, do my morning routine and head out to a toasty car.

if not you're gonna, you need to make another key. if you do, you dont need a fancy transponder one. just one that will lock and unlock. and use your main one right now for starting. it's also better just to have 2 keys anyway. never know when you lose one, like i did

This is the reason why I have an alarm with remote start.

And if you don't you can always do this. Get another set of keys. Open your from your front passenger and start it on the passenger side. Have your spare with you. After you've started it, go out the front passenger door and lock it from there. The reason is that you can lock the whole car with the front driver door opened. Now when you ready to leave, use your spare to open your front driver and you're good to go.

I would invest in a remote start...thieves can spot a car idling very easily right now.

Not to hijack your thread, but any of you remote start users ever have intermittent problems with it not actually starting the engine? Sometimes mine takes 2-3 cycles before it starts, then it will go 20-30 starts and do fine....

Its a DEI system, has all the relays and associated necessary hardware.

Its kind of aggravating-you know when youre trying to show off your remote start. Check this out......errr maybe not.

Someone I know that used to install car alarms told me that he had some issues like I am with newer Hondas and Fords. Guess Ill just have to live with it.

When i had a remote starter on my old car, i had trouble with the remote starter. The distance in which i had to be from my car is only so far away. i have to be within 20 feet for my car to start. Is it by brand?

So you got a ticket for starting your car without being in it? Well with a remote starter is it not the same concept?

No it's not the same because you don't have the key in the car when its started and also the car shuts off when you push the brake if you don't have the key in.

In Canada (Montreal ) you could get a ticket if you start your car by the remote starter and let the car run for more then 10 min. .It's a new law in here to reduce emmision and smog from the idling engine.

My remote start sucks, once the car starts the doors lock so I have to use the key to get in. IF it's been wet out my locks freeze and I can't open my damn car cuz the lock is frozen. Luckily the 2x this happend I was at home and used a hair dryer to unfreeze the lock.

I have the factory alarm still. I got remote start as a gift. I'm sure it's just a basic system (don't know the brand) but in order for it to work I have to hit unlock 3x. On the 3rd time the car starts and the doors lock. Once the car is started the factory remote is useless so I HAVE to use the key to get in. Most of the time it's fine, but if the car is wet, and it gets colder out the water in the locks freezes. I try to keep a can of that lock-de icer on me, but thats annoying. lol
