Unhappy Window Tinting prices??

I called several places in New Jersey to get a price quote for windows tinting. One guy told me that to tint my car it will be like 225 bucks and they can't take care of the Dot Matrix area. Another place ask for $325 bucks and they said that the Dot Matrix area is very difficult to be tinted. Aside from the quality they do, I think these are outrageous prices!! Anyone know of a good place in northern jersey who does good tinting with reasonable pricing???

I think that's rip off...big time

In California, the cheapest is $130 for 5 windows.

I paid $160 for a great quality work and the dot matrix is great!

I would definitely ask shop around.

Here is a link: http://www.autowindowtintings.com/main.cfm?action=home

You can find a shop around your area by zip code. Good luck. This site also have info about tinting and different films they use and the warranty. Also, some website for the shop has cupons like 15% off or something. Look into that and it really helps.

Good luck..

I paid $225 for my tint (5 windows). The tint comes with a lifetime warranty, and the installer will remove it from the front 2 windows if I ever get a fix-it ticket (since it is illegal). I could have driven 10 or 15 miles in either direction to get a better deal, but the fact is that convenience is key. Plus, they are a detail shop that I have used before, they are local so if I have any issues I can take it back easily, and I like the people.

In other words, find some friends who have tint that you like, and ask where they got it and if they liked the place. Then, as long as the price isn't ridiclous, follow their recommendation. Going cheap on tint will make the car look worse, not better!

Oh, I do want to point out that I didn't get charged sales tax - they built it into the price, so the cost before sales tax was $208. Just for accurate comparisons.

paid $150 plus tax for tinting my car at a place in Queens. They have done my TL-S, my old Accord, and my friends Lexus.

The Dot Matriz arae was left untinted as that is teh only part they would not warranty. Tint job still looks good and I am happy. If you are in Nassau TypeSDragon, stop on by and you can check out my car yourself.

There is a method to prepare the dot matrix so the tint will stick. You could pay $120 here in New Orleans and the job would be first class. A good buddy of mine has been in business 12 years and I worked with him for 7 years and I can tell you a "lifetime " warranty is a bunch of CRAP.. My '91 Honda Accord has been in the sun it's entire life and was retinted for the third time last month. The first film on the car came from the dealership and was a "dyed" film.
It lasted about 2 years. After that I tinted the car with a quality metal/dye combination that lasted 8 years and I changed it due to scratches and starting to distort. If someone will sell you the job for a much cheaper price without "lifetime" warranty.. Look at the film and ask about the quality of film included with the lower priced job.
Good tint should never have the purple or blue look when new..this would likely be a dyed film.. I do not care for metal films that look mirror, although they are good films. I prefer the smoked - grey, and smoked - green look.
Good luck in your search and $130/150 should be the range regardless of where you live :-)

i don't think they need to do anything to the dotmatrix if they know what they are doing. They didn't do anything special to my dot matrix..and it's fine

The cheapest tinting I got offered is $175/5windows. 35% or 25%. I know that these guys are good, they give you a lifetime warranty against bubbles.
Make sure you don't get screwed with bubbles. I heard a lot of places make you pay for it if you come back after 1 year.

Did you ask for a quote?

Dot Matrix is the top part of your rear windshield where all the dots are. I have ask numerous tint shops and they can't guarenteed that they can tint that area without any bubbles. I will be getting a tint this Wed and the tint shop recommended not to tint that area.

My Acura dealer here in Kansas told me that I could get it done for a little over a hundred bucks.. (they send it out to some local shop) Im guessing $130-140.. I think thats a steal for a 5 window job! I paid about that much to have my MKVII LSC done a while back. what ever the cost go with the quality material.
-What Id like to know more about is the colors they have available.. I seem remember years ago being in a shop that had all kinds of cool shades of silver, bronze, smoke etc. I now longer see these colors offered in the current shops around here. Ive inquired about them and have been told that they didnt hold up well, so they no longer sold them. Is that true.. hmm..

I was quoted $140 in SoCal from Tint Devil.

They also said the dot matrix was NO PROBLEM. They place a strip of black vynl over the dot matrix (no bubbles no troubles) then they tint the whole back window.

I saw one or two cars in the lot with the vynl strip over matrix. It looks good.

Hey...I got my tint done at Custom Window Tinting in Union. They did a great job, but they charged me $225. They told me I can pay $180 or so for the cheaper kind (which would fade in time) and $225 for the high quality film. I went for the better one...I don't know if you've been there, but the place is located in the back of 2 buildings down an alley...If you are going to wait for it, I suggest you be the first so you can get out quickly. I believe you can get a discount if someone referred you. Tell them you know a guy with a TL they did back in Oct. I'll check tonight for the referral card/discount.

I had a titanium film put on my z-28 comaro and it was in perfect shape 112k miles later; however, Titanium film will drastically reduce your AM radio reception and probably will affect your nav system a little. I think if I were going to tint my new TL-type-s with Nav. I would not go with the metallic films.

I had a Z-28 Comaro with 112K miles. The tint job was a LLumar titanium film. It held up perfect under very hot Texas Summers. The titamium film drastically reduced the am radio reception and will probably affect the nav. system reception a little. Am radio has a wave lengh several hundred feet long. The nav. system operates in the microwave band but my guess is that metallic films will even affect the nav. system.. Llumar is the best quality film I have seen. I don't think I will tint my new Tl-Typ S.
