Will tape pull of fake chrome on the headlights?

I'm blacking out my headlights as we speak, will masking tape pull off the fake chrome (I have to mask off the blinker area)? If so, what else should I use?

i cleared out and blacked out my friend's honda accord, and i tried to tape a line about the width of two pieces of tape for a reflector, and when i pulled it off a bit of chrome the width of a pen came off so i took off the tape and blacked out the whole thing.... you might wanna try something not very sticky, or maybe use the masking tape, but put a little baby powder on the sticky side, so it'll still kinda hold it's place when u're painting, but it'll pull off easily? never tried it, but next time i get a chance to clear some headlights i might try it...

My friend used tape to cover some parts with tape when he was blacking out his CL and it peeled out the chrome pretty good. We cracked up so much cuz it got so jacked up.... but in the end he was pretty pissed.

Well I tried the baby powder thing in conjunction with this black masking tape I have and the lights are drying right now. Hopefully I won't lose too much chrome. Wish me luck.

correct use the blue 3m tape. the cheap tape doesnt let go as easy. any good 3m painters tape will work great.

here is another tip, remove it as soon as possible like as soon as your last coat starts to tack up
