will aftermarket HID kit work?

I need to replace a ballast and instead of just buying a oem ballast i was thinking about buying an aftermarket HID kit with the ballasts and bulbs so i could also change to 6000ks. Has anyone have experience doing this? Im just worried about everything fitting correctly.

Stick with the stock 4300. You will see the road much better

after market will work but then you have to find a place to mount ur kit. OEM already have a place to stick it on.

If you get an aftermarket kit, youre going to run into a couple of problems. The OEM HID bulbs in the 2nd gen TLs are D2R bulbs and are not sold in aftermarket universal HID kits that you normally see for sale on ebay, or other web sites. The aftermarket universal kits are made for cars that are originally equiped with halogen head lights and supply halogen bulb sizes such as H1, 9006, ect. Not D2R or D2S. The D2R bulbs are sold just as the bulbs and are designed to fit on the HID reflector headlights (D2S are for projectors). Plus, the headlight are designed to fit only the D2R bulbs and has a bigger cutout to fit the front portion of the igniter. It is possible to use the after market kit but you would have to find a way to rig the aftermarket bulbs to fit in the headlight correctly which is a big headache (i know from experience) . I recommend buying a new/used OEM ballast and if you feel like upgrading to a higher color temp get the right size bulb for the headlight (D2R)

^you can buy aftermarket hid kits with d2r or d2s bulbs, my friend is actually an HID dealer...they are readily available at local shops around here as well...no ghetto rigging needed lol

yeah, i searched for D2R bulbs on ebay and there are a bunch but thanks for the information. I probably would've bought the wrong ones.

I have aftermarket ones and they work great. There's a spot right under the headlight that you can place the ballast in there.

how much are you saving by purchasing aftermarket?
