Wife Scratched a Rim!

And she was upset the entire night. My wife was pulling out of the dealership, didn't see anything and then as she pulled and turned right, she said she heard a noise and just knew the rim was scratched. Sure enough, the lip of the rim is thrashed. Anyone know if a scratch can be filed down to lessen the damage? Until we get bigger rims, I would like to make the damage mor subtle.

Well, if it is not too damaged you can sand down the rough surface with a sanding tool (Dremel). It makes it a lil less noticeable. That's what I did to my other car's rim.

Will try that and try to make my wife feel a little better. It's kinda funny at how upset MY WIFE was over this. From what I hear, other wives might not have even noticed. Myne was just ready to call it quits for the evening Maybe if I weren't so amused by her reaction...I would be more upset.

Poor wife. I guess she knows how much you care for your car. Do a search also. I've seen posts where you can get a scratched rim fixed by shops. I believe it is inexpensive.

When I first read the subject heading, one word came to mind: divorce . But, after reading how upset she is, I think she is a keeper.
Good luck on getting it repaired. I hope it's not too bad.
What rims have you been looking at getting? Has she been helping you loo, giving advice? (I just think it's cool when she shows an interest, too)

Yep, my wife has been looking at wheels here and there. My wife likes the "look" of the Konig Monsoons. I say "look" because she doesn't care about the brand or if the wheels are the best quality....she just wants to like how they look Honestly, I'm not too educated at what is a good brand for a moderate price...(we've been looking at Enkei, Konig and momo) so if anyone has suggestions, I am open to them. I would like 17x7.5 or 8 and 18 x 7.5 (at the biggest).

Another thing my wife does that's cool.......she's very anal about keeping BOTH our cars clean.....she keeps me on my toes about this

You are one lucky guy! I would check out the tire and wheels link above. There are some pretty nice rims on. Also, what is your spending limit? I would also check out the tires and wheels forum. I want these next spring.

AT ITALIA S5 18X7.5 $249/ea on tirerack

Pic of Closer's car (before kit and spoiler).

I might be unrealistic, but I would like to spend $200 or less per wheel.

If that price cannot be found for a good-looking, good quality rim.....it will just have to wait till next year.

Thanks for the compliment on "the wife"....she is a keeper.

Maybe you want to find a rim shop to do a swap? It happened to me before, the shop charged $75 for a swap to a new rim.

Yep, I looked into that when DiscountTire said one of the rims was bent (although 2 Acura dealerships disagreed). I called up that place and since I'm not local...it's not that great of a deal. And I could not find anyone local...as of yet.

Thanks, tho, I'll keep it in mind.

Of course, I could just wait and use any monies towards upgraded rims

Well, if it will make you feel a little better--my wife scratched the corner of the front bumper against our other car while turning into the carport; talk about a double-whammy. Left 3 parallel scratches about 5-6 inches long. Oh well, I still love her...

I should hope we can still love our wives after this kinda stuff! We would be pretty big a$$es if we didn't

Well, my response was a sort of indirect response to the one reply that mentioned "divorce" as something that came to mind. I'm sure that the guy wasn't serious about that but still...I can see someone getting upset over a damaged rim, but divorce??? C'mon--it's only a rim; even if he wasn't serious about that, it's still not cool IMHO to joke like that over something so relatively trivial.

Sorry to hear about your scratched rim but at least your wife was sincere about feeling guilty. Now you can use that to blackmail her for future mods.

If you decide to sell the other 3 rims, I'll put in a bid for one.....

My wife's TL-S has a nice scratch on the passenger rear rim, courtesy of me - yeah, she forgave me, but she had loads of fun ribbing about my (lack of) driving skills.

I actually have a small scratch on the lip of my rim, and I took it to a tire shop. They told me something about a clear coat on the rim that prevented them from buffing it out. Then of course they proceeded to try to sell me a new set of rims!

Were they full of BS or has anybody else had their rims fixed?
