Wierd issue with unlocking by remote

My key remote seems to only work occasionally to unlock the doors (pressing it doesn't seem to do anything), but I find if I unlock the trunk (which seems to work with no problems) I can then unlock the doors with the remote. This isn't consistent though, sometimes my remote will work fine for days. Does this sound like a remote battery issue, or something else? Seems strange that if I can't unlock the doors unlocking the trunk first makes it work, but it works every time.

any ideas?

I'd bring it into the dealer but I'd expect them to charge me a lot for a new battery, then have it not fix the problem. I'd like an aftermarket alarm but I'm not going to have the cash for that anytime soon (especially since I need to bring my car in for the 105,000 mile maintenance).

Don't need to go to the dealer at all to get a new battery for the keyfob. They're like $3.95 or something at any store that sells a variety of batteries.

Yeah Im going to get some new batteries for my remotes, but does that even sound like a battery issue? Since I have no problem with the trunk, and then the door unlock works after I open the trunk, it makes me think it's not a battery issue (shouldn't the battery be that much more used up after sending the trunk open signal?).

I 'm having the same exact problem, and it sounds like a dying fob battery. Pay attention to teh light at top of teh remote, you'll see that it doesn't light when you're having trouble with the unlocking of the doors.

happened to me. I had them reprogram the alarm and remotes. Changed the batteries and everything worked like a champ.

who goes to the dealer to get a battery? its the cr2025 button cell battery (it says on the back of the remote), its the same one you put in most calculators. its super common, and costs like $2-$4 at radio shack or walmart, etc. its super simple to replace yourself. dont go to the dealer for stuff like this, thats insane.
