Why 5W20 oil instead of 5w30oil

I have a 2002 TL and the manual prefer using 5w20 oil. Ok the question is why does acura want us to use 5w20. This oil is lighter in weight and does not protect the engine as well as 5w30. Is this 5w20 used to improve gas mileage??????? and meet est mileage requirements??????. The other question: TL2000, 2001 and 2002 have the same engine and should require the same oil???????....Can I have some opinions here

This is a long-standing debate here on the forums. Yes, the owner's manual states use 5W-20 for the 2002s (that's what I use). However, unless you are in severe temperature northern climes, 5W-30 will work just as well. The switch was, as you suspected, primarily for fuel economy.

If you logon to Acura Owner Link, Acura recommends 5w-30. 5w-30 is easy to find in most stores so I am using 5w-30.

What section is that in? I found this on the Owner Link site in the maintenance section...

Choosing a Motor Oil
Acura recommends using a 5W-20 motor oil year-round. Lighter oils flow easier once the cold engine starts, bringing vital lubrication to moving parts

I use 5W-30 Redline but if I can find 5w-20 Redline I think I'll give that a shot next time.

5w30

Amsoil make a synethic 5w20 oil. I am going with Mobil 1 5w30. This oil is readily available, and should be good as 5w20.
