new TL, and TLS weigh about the same... add the extra 10HP, slight more torque and manual tranny... the 04TL is faster easily and will outhandle the type S as well

i will not even consider buyin an new tl till there is a type s out there or something like it.......because as u know everyone is creamin over the 04 or some r i should say when u know when the type s comes out it will have nicer rims and more appeal just like when the 98-01's were out then the type s came out and peeps loved it even more....

i'd say stock for stock, auto vs auto, the 04 will beat the type s. The highway gearing is different this time around. It actually is a parkway puller like a bimmer. But i feel that a type s modded out would take one with no probs. It's just that the new tl is making more hp and tq throughout the rpm band. then before.

Here's an unfair comparison: unmodded TL-S vs. 6MT 2004 TL.

Modded, the TL-S might have an edge over the 2004 AT TL.

I heard the same thing from the dealer...he said that there will not be a TL-S because if they were to do the same upgrade of HP on the new TL as they did on the '03 tl-s it would put the '04 TL at over300 hp. He said the handling of t now would not be able to handle anythin over 300HP. But there is a HPTL which has brembo brakes,18" wheels and some other mods That I cant think of right now...but nothing is being done to the engine. Dont quote me on the name.

Faster or slower, I am sure that there is no significant difference in acceleration between and 03 TLS and an automatic 04. Likewise, an 03 manual CLS and a manual 04 can’t be very different in acceleration.

As for handling, I have always suspected that the 03’s are under tired, and the 04’s larger tires may make a difference.

I have a 03 TLS and drove the auto and manual tranny 04 (the 6sp was fresh off the truck). Seat of the pants impression I would say both 04's are faster than the 03. The shifts on the auto were alot crisper and the car felt as if it picked up speed at a faster rate.
As for the 6speed. Sweet.....
Very short shifts, nice smooth take up on the clutch.
If I wasn't going to take such a huge loss on my 03 I would definately take the 6sp.

Stock '04 AT vs. Stock '03 AT would go to the '04 on paper and as Bear2Day says - it's gonna be a drivers race.

Modified '03 will beat the '04 easily with I/H. '04 will not benefit greatly from an intake because it's already got CAI stock. '04 will not benefit from Headers because no way to add because of head/exhause manifold design. '03 has so much more upside potential as far as motor over an '04 but I think that's where it's advantages end (besides price).

This is what a sales manager told me about the Type S. He said right now Acura is not saying much about a performance version of the TL other than the A spec. He said that if Acura started leaking any rumors about a Type S or high HP motor for the TL that a lot of people will just wait for it. That will cause bad sales for the TL because of all the people waiting on a high horse power version. Take rumors with a grain of salt, including this one. You never know until the car actually hits the streets.

One has to define faster.... if its .0000001 second faster in the 1/4 mile, its faster... are you going to notice it....NO, So it will have to be noticeably faster before I get to excited about it.

More rubber on the road has its + and - ... More rubber on the road should mean more traction, however, the larger the rim and tire the more rotational inertia and the harder they become to start and stop. Did this on my truck went up a rim size, wider tire, overall height pretty close to stock but the loss of power and increase in stopping distance was significant.

This sounds ALOT like the argument @ Maxima.org with the 5th gen 3.5L Maxima (2002-2003) versus the 6th gen Maxima (2004) debate.

I would buy a 270hp+ AWD performance 4door from Acura before the other makes sitting out there (BMW, Infinity, etc). As it stands, a new TL--even with it's neat technology--doesn't justify the cost and hit on a trade at this point. Just simply doesn't...

Not Necessarily - I'm running 235/45-17 Michelin Pilot A/S on '03 CL-S wheels without a problem.

I drove the '04 last night and I was impressed. I think it's faster than a stock '03 TL-S but definitely not faster than mine with Icebox and CT Headers. '04 doesn't have gate shifting if that's your shifting of choice.

Bricot is right. Bigger heavier tire = slower 60 & 1/4 times.

That's why when I switch to lighter wheels and tires I was beating guys with intakes or headers. Matter of fact my 1/4 times are right there with the 6s CLS.

14.69 & and backed it up with a 14.65, that was without the Icebox . .

stock TLS without mods, just the lighter wheels and tires.
