I know this from personal experience. my friend has a VW 1.8t and I smoke his Jetta by at least 2 car lenghts. Even after he got it chipped, I still beat him, not as easily but I still do. Beat him by 2 car lenghts BEFORE I started modding. After he started modding, I did too so we're pretty even.
Race him and show him who's boss.

HAHAHA tell him when he can afford a TL type s to come an talk to you then about japaneese tech.
I would think I could take him with a stock TL. I mean there is alot that can be done to a 1.8T engine, but stock to stock the Jetta 1.8t is 180 hp, and this guy knows the TL type S is 260hp. Is he stupid? Blow his doors off and he'll keep his mouth shut in the future when talking about japaneese technology!!

It's still a Jetta, and still a piece of crap. I had one as a rental and that thing was horrible. I hated it. Though, it was still better than a piece of sh*t Ford Focus, which was my other option for a rental. But stock for stock, the Type-S will own his ass, and you might as well hand him his ass, since he is acting like one.

if anything, a 1.8t Jetta can run a good race with the TL/CL-P. The TL/CL-S will smoke him, no contest. You'll walk on his ass...and yes, put $$$ on it, that way your satisfaction level will be much larger

This is not Eric. This is his friend with the "piece of crap" 1.8T.
I've met a few of you at local gtgs... Hi guys.
Now,
Stock vs. Stock the TL Type S will definitely spank a 1.8T. With a chip, the 1.8T will surprise every single one of you. Not saying it will beat a typeS but you will be surprised to see our lights right on your ass. (right Eric?)
Evenstill, as I tell Eric all the time, you are comparing apples to oranges.
TLs are old man cushy cars with pillowy suspensions and no road feel; designed for old folks that don't truly love to drive. I'm in no way saying that you guys are that because I know better but, lets face the facts here.
Speaking from personal experience, I'd much rather drive a nicely modded 1.8T for the fun factor alone. I've driven Eric's car and I will be the first to admit that its a very nice car; plenty of power, comfort and ameneties BUT it is not as much fun to drive as my car and Eric will back me up on this.
Here is the way I think about it...
TLs are what? 32K entry level luxury vehicles. Jettas are 20K with a turbo the size of an adult fist. Again, apples to oranges.
I've had more then my share of modded TL-Ps in the past and they don't compare with a nicely tuned 1.8T. Ask Yousef :TLDiplomat?: about the cruise we met up with the Cobra on the Parkway. I'd rather run with you typeS guys to show you what bang for the buck means.
To everyone else thats hating on the 1.8T (and I know that most of you aren't), I'll be sure to make myself available all summer at the local Acura GTGs. Not that you guys ever actually show up to any.
Eric, thanks for letting me post on here with your screen name.

I have 2 friends to 1.8Ts, I have a TL-p stock with aem short ram even i beat them off the line and off the drop. They both recently been chipped and modded with upgraded blow off valves and boy those things can move. Ive seen them beat 350z's on the highway and G35's. They cant move off the line but off a drop a stock TL's will be a good contender.
