Question whiny sound??

Just this week, I noticed that while accellerating or slowing down at low speeds, I could hear a low pitch whine sound. I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this. Also, I'm hoping it's not a predictor of this "tranny" problem that seems to be plagueing so many TL-S owners.

Has anyone else heard this noise while cruising at low speeds without the radio on?

I don't want to scare you but that could very well be the transmission going. I noticed that sound as I was pulling out of my garage and half a mile down the road my car started to misshift. I'm taking my car in today. I really hope that's not the case for you. Maybe somone sneaked in a supercharger under your hood when you weren't looking.

I experience the whine also... At one point in the past all my LEDs on the dash came on and the car was shifting and behaving erratically.... Some folk scared me into the transmission syndrom, I did take the car in for service and everything checked out fine, however. Then again, anything is possible.

check and see if it coincides withthe A/C on and the compressor running.
I had a whining noise, and it was the A/C compressor, sounded worse when the weather was warm, and the whine is proportional to engine speed.

Took a while for me to figure it out, closer clue was I was listening to the whine, and all of a sudden it dissapeared as the A/C disengeged.
Dealer agreed it was the compressor, and upon disassembly, the compressor clutch was blued, meaning it was scoring, and perhaps slipping.

Does it happen when you are turning? If yes, could be a wheel bearing (hopefully)

Most likely it is the transmission. After my first tranny failure I did a lot of research about tranny's in general and one thing that all the resources said was that a whining/humming noise from the floor boards is a very big indicator of an early transmission problem.

It happened to me, after 512 miles my #2 tranny was pronounced defective by the dealership after they pinpointed the whining noise to the tranny when they had the car up on the lift (getting tranny #3 installed tomorrow AM actually, here's hoping it's the last darn one).

Take it in to the dealer and have one of them drive with you to determine if the noise is coming from the wheel or from the underside of the engine on the driver's side (where the tranny is located). If you hover around 20-25mph in a straight line you should be able to hear this noise.

If you only hear it while taking corners it may just be a bearing, but I doubt it

Good luck!
