Whining/whirring/rattling low pitch sound
So i have this sound when accelerating and seems to be there from 2nd and 3rd but disappears on 4th and 5th. Most noticeable when you are harder on the pedal but not so much when granny-ing the accelerator. I can hear it coming from the driver side but tranny shift smoothly and responsive. This is the second tranny of the car and was replaced in 06. Fluid level is good and fluid is newer about 7k ago and still look reddish. I've poked around under and nothing seems loose.
Anyone experiencing this? Should I start saving for a rebuild/replacement?

Check the mounts and the belts.
Mounts
~check for cracks
~check for oil leaking from the mount
~do brake check meaning, put your foot on the brake and then the accelerator and see if there is excessive movement of the engine. Do it with a buddy. If no buddy is available, lift the hood and stick your head out while accelerating. Do it in reverse and then forward. A little movement is okay.
Belts
~check for cracks
~check for excessive wear
Let`s try to narrow it down.

Whining, whirring, and rattling sounds could possibly be belt related, but one would assume that you'd hear the same sounds at other times also.
So, if it's only when the tranny shifts at lower speeds...IDK, ya may need a second opinion if this noise combo occurs only during the 2>3 shift.

My trans whines as well. It has been doing it for quite some time and hasn't gotten any worse so who knows. I think it is there in all gears but more noticeable in 2/3/4 I suppose. The faster you go road noise starts to drown it out

Does yours whirr besides the whine?
I brought it in to a honda indy shop and they did the brake and gas pedal test and ruled out motor mounts and came to a conclusion that it might be differential - of course would need to open it up. Tech did say it's not slipping so that's a good sign at least for now. I think i'll let it whine whir rattle until it whines whire and rattle no more and tranny can rest in peace.

A catalyst with broken internals could also rattle, but it had a code for inefficiency when that happened.
Does whine sound like this ?

Even though the PS pump's fluid appears full......it could be old and contaminated.
The pump's internal parts and belt can create noises as they get older with wear.
But, that still wouldn't explain why ya only hear the noises while the tranny is shifting, IMO.
