Smile Where was your 2g TL built?

Being a 2G tl owner in Central Ohio, I was happy to find out that my lovely HMM 99 tl-p was built in Marysville, Oh., which is less than 45 mins from where I grew up & currently live. I drove by that plant 4 times a week going to and from college from '08-'11, and find it very cool that my tl has always been close to her birthplace. I imagine her being shook down on the test tracks the day she rolled out of the factory. The Honda indy cars test at the same facility, as did their old F1 team. Search for the plant on Google maps and you'll clearly see the uber impressive high banked oval track, as well as many smaller satellite tracks on the grounds. We're all 2g's built in Ohio, and then sent across North America? I know that in 1990 the number 1 car imported to Japan was the Accord built at this plant, so is it safe to assume that rhd sabers/inspires were built in the land of the buckeye? I'm just curious, honestly.

most Acura's are built in the Marysville plant.

All TL's are built in Oh.

Honda Marysville Auto Plant (MAP) is a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda manufacturing facility located approximately six miles northwest of Marysville, Ohio and is 42 miles northwest of Columbus, Ohio. It is one of the most integrated and flexible auto plants in North America. Operations include stamping, plastics injection molding, welding, painting, sub-assembly and assembly. The assembly plant opened in 1982.
  • Location: 24000 Honda Pkwy Marysville, Ohio
  • Started Production: November 1982
  • Plant Size: 3.6 million square feet
  • Capital Investment: $4 billion
  • Employees: 4,200
Current Models Produced:

While I'm totally out in the dark and unsure ...... but, I'd have my doubts if the "Sabres & Inspires" were manufactured here within the USA production facilities. It's not like Japan gave up all of it's bread and butter to be farmed out here in the states. They still manufacture automobiles and attempt to keep a handle on engineering details, specifically the drivetrain.

Just wondering, if pumping up the volume for the 2nd Gens at Honda's Marysville stateside plant led to the quality issues with our 2nd Gen's problematic 5 speed trannys ??? Rush to the marketplace, poor testing, poor QC or workmanship.....who knows ?

the change to a 5 speed trans seems to have been rushed thru engineering

When you look at the actual problem- there is simply not enough cooling oil flow to the 3rd gear clutchpack
when they redesigned the gen2 trans case in 2005 for warranty replacement units- it had better oil passages but could use more~

Yep but the transmission is either from Japan or US, Look at the sticker for M7WA or B7WA on the transmission case. (Depends on the model year) 99 had B7VA I believe is US also since it starts with the letter B.

Mines had M7WA (Japan) and now a rebuilt B7WA (US) Both are crap unfortunately.

01tl4tl, I was thinking of fitting an oil jet of some kind over the 3rd clutch pack casing without slowing down the 2nd gear oil jet , Im willing to take the risk and maybe come up with a thread if works out with proof of temperatures etc.

That wouldnt do anything. The oil jet for the 2nd gear shaft sprays fluid on the shaft itself. Even IF there were a location to put a oil jet in to spray at the 3rd gear clutch pack it wouldnt do anything as the clutches are inside a drum and the fluid wouldnt get to them.

I know what your saying, they are suppose to lubricate within.
but if you look here theres a few small orifices on the drum itself to release lube fluid, if aimed correctly when the car is at a stop or at idle it should let some fluid in, thats my theory it may or may not work but hey if it doesn't Av6 is on the list.

This is a B7WA that I took apart for the hell of it.

The problem is for when its shifting. Fluid isnt going to be going in those little holes as its spinning at speed while driving. By time you come to a stop the damage/heat is already done.

And IF it was something that was a viable solution to help the trans dont you think Acura would have done it to help like they did for the 2nd gear shaft issue??

Id just do the AV6 swap

IMO they would take action if it was a safety concern like the 2nd gear campaign.
My trans currently does not have an issue but I'm willing to take the risk of it giving up.

^ True! I've been more than happy with my Oil Jet Kit Installation. Regardless but I do have an AV6 trans laying around.. If your going to do something better have a back-up ready so you don't get stranded.

Better pay them a visit to see how the yard's ongoing and current inventory is on the AV6.

Check regularly, and when ya see a low mileage tranny from a car that hasn't been hit in the front, NAB IT UP !!!

...... and then sit back as Skirmich has done. Just having the spare tranny seems to have a way of scaring the pesky gremlins and demons away from your present tranny. That in itself is a good thing and will save ya work.
