where would you buy your timing belt?

1 got 160,000 miles and i dont know if the belt has been replaced. any cheap but reliable places to order the belt. i got a mechanic that says if i get the part he will do the job for cheap. i understand i should just replace the water pump while im at it too. so anyone know of the best deals on these?

This is are the exact parts from the OEM Supplier from Honda without the Honda Price Tag:
http://www.amazon.com/Aisin-TKH-001-.../dp/B008EEYTQA
By far the best deal you will find everywhere online.. ^ Those parts are OEM!!!

It has everything you need except the Cam/Crank Seals which are often optional but still cheap..

http://www.autohausaz.com/search/pro...tnumber=TKT024

$183.73, free shipping with standard UPS Ground. Not sure if I missed any details, but I just searched Google for "AISIN timing belt kit" and that came up in the Shopping results.

EDIT:

Sorry, may not be the right one. That's TKT-024. Is TKT-001 the correct one for our TL's? And if that's the case: http://www.autohausaz.com/search/pro...tnumber=TKT001 -- $164.73.

make sure it includes tbelt, water pump, timing belt tensioner
Also recommended ps belt tensioner, ps belt ac belt and ac belt tensioner
Worth the money now to not pay the labor again later when those parts fail

tbelt tensioner failure most critical as it will destroy the engine, no kidding
how much longer do you plan to drive the car? then spend a little cash now to drive it without worry,,160 is very good lifespan for tbelt

while its half apart, add labor to remove intake manifold and clean egr port and path system, clean TB IACV, mechanic can soak the manifold overnight to make final cleaning easy with their special brush tool,,should do egr system cleaning every 75kmiles and its not in the book schedule- real life says so

That's not even close to be our kit... Look at the Tensioner and Water Pump? That looks more of a 4 cyl kit that anything..

Our Kit code is: "TKH-001" which works for either the J30 (Accord) and J32 (2G TL) and that's the only kit you should buy from AISIN...

CODE: """TKH-001""" FROM "AISIN" IS THE ONLY KIT FOR THE 2g TL!!

True, I mentioned Rockauto though because if you need anything else they likely have it.

^^^ Rockauto offers a good selection of products for our TL's. Lot's of name brand replacement parts which are comparable to OEM at much lower costs. Their service is fast and reliable. Never had a problem with any of the orders which I placed. They are definitely worth checking out when comparing prices.

Thumbs up OEM factory replacement parts

Yeah, as Skirmich previously mentioned....... OEM stuff is manufactured to factory spec. Honda has sub-contract vendors who build their various parts for them to use on the assembly line.

So, it's possible to purchase parts of equivalent or better quality from sources other than the dealership at substantial savings.

I use RockAuto as well, very hard to beat their prices even with the shipping charges.

On my 2001 TL I used a Gate Belt set and Gates Water Pump and purchased a Timing Belt tensioner and it was a little less money than the AISIN kit, although that kit is a good way to go but I've always had good luck with Gates products.

One thing I would do if I were you since you have so many miles on your car and learn from my mistake. A friend of my (Honda Tech) told me to drop the oil pan and remove the oil pump and change the O-Ring gasket behind the pump because they start leaking with higher mileage and I didn't listen to him and a week later mine started leaking oil from the oil ring seal and would run down inside the timing belt cover housing and then onto the oil pan.

Mine had on 135K when it started leaking.

Also replace your camshaft seal while you are at it.

I had to take everything back apart a second time to do the oil leak repair. I wish I had done it the first time when I already had the timing belt off and everything taken apart as it would have saved a lot of time and sweat.
