The Canadian Honda filters are the same as the Orange Fram but the USA built Honda Filters are now made by FRAM but are a little higher quality that the Orange Cans. I wouldn't use them though. Honda switched from FIltertech to Fram manaufacturing to reduce cost. Never trusted FRAM ****ty construction. Some people reported having the filters rupture under hard running. For a few bucks more than the Honda Filters get a Mobil 1 or K&N Gold filter.

I have this question also. I figured the Mobil 1 filters would be better than the Honda filters, but the Acura tech at work said OE is better and to use the Mobil 1 oil w/ an OE filter...and he doesn't have anything to gain by telling me to use OE. I get the filters at 10% over dealer cost anyway. He said something about it being designed specifically for that engine....but why are Mobil 1 more expensive--seems to me they must be better because you get what you pay for? Either, way I don't think one or the other would hurt the car.

I did not realize Fram made the Honda filters either. I just looked at a Honda filter and it says Honeywell. Did a search on the web and sure enough, Fram is a division of Honeywell. They do seem like much better construction though and have the bypass valve. I'm sure Honda has it made to their specs

Dang It, I just changed the oil yesterday. Schuck's had only the Fram model in stock so I got it . It cost only $4.50 or something.
Is there a site that tested and compared the difference between Fram and competitors?

In reading some info from folks who have done research on oil filters, it seems like the Puralator One was one of the best, and the Mobil 1 is very good as well. Funny, I have a few Honda filters I purchased a few years back that I still have not used yet and they were bigger (and seem a little better made) than the new ones you get form Honda. The old ones were made by Filtech, the new ones by Honeywell (Fram). Anyone know anything about the difference?

My son, who has a modified '99 Civic Si, had gone through the gambit of different oil filters. He favored the Mobil-1 and K&Ns for a while. Lately, he start using the S2000 Honda oil filter and suggested that I use it on my '02 TL-S.
The part number for the Honda S2000 filter is 15-400-PCX-004. This oil filter is the same height as the stock Honda filter used on most Acuras/Hondas (15400-PLM-A01 from Acura dealer, 15400-POH-305 from Honda dealer) but wider. The rubber gasket on all these filters is the same.
Using the larger filter, you have a bit more filtering capacity. You also need to add bit more oil in the engine.

Yeah, I read somewhere else that the **PCX-004 filter is made in Japan and is the best one (and more expensive I imagine). The **PLM-A01 (Filtech) is the ones I had purchased a few years ago and seems well made and like Mike says is easily 33% larger than the **PLM-A02&A03 (Honeywell/Fram) as well as twice as heavy. Can you still get the **PLM-A01? I have two left of those. I'll probably just switch to Puralator 1 after that..

Yes, the PLM-A01s are still available. Several months ago, I picked up 6 PLM-A01s from the local Acura dealer who honored the local Honda Dealer's coupon price. When I found out about the larger S2000 filter, I went to the local Honda dealer with the 5 PLM-A01s that I had left and the parts guy gladly exchanged them for 5 PCX-004s.

Hi all,
Amsoil sells Hastings filters which are of very high quality and designed for extended oil change intervals. Have used them on my '92 Integra for the last 80 kmiles with Amsoil 0W-30. Change oil every 10~12 kmi., engine very happy at 145 kmi. now.
Will start same procedure on my '02 TL-S on next oil change.
Hope it helps.

I would go with the Mobil 1 filter M1-104. Don't waste your money on the oversized, Road Rage will even tell you there is not much added benefit to it. You should be set with the M1-104.
