When buying the new car...

When you're actually paying the down payment, can you pay the dealer with a plain old, regular personal check? i'm planning to put down ~$14000. Or do i have to go and make money orders or something?

with the last two cars i purchased, i too paid the down with a personal check. in fact, they are willing to hold it for a day or two just so you can make sure there is enough money. don't worry about it...they know where to find you if funds are insufficient!

I did pay with a personal check but for a much lower amount. For $14k why don't you just wire the money or a cashiers check.

personal checks should be fine. they got all your info, so they know you're not running away for a few thousand dollars

......Look Instead of asking us that none of us work for a car dealer, just go there and ask if you could pay with a personal check.....many places will not accept a personal check for over $10k but not always, so go ahead and try. Good luck.

Is this a JOKE. You could put any info you want on a personal check......have you ever order checks???? This is another reason they don't like personal check.
