Question Wheel Lock

I recently noticed I have wheel locks on my wheels?

I don't have the key to unlock?

How can I take it off without the key?

Could I buy another set of wheel lock and use that key to unlock the one currently on the car?

Please let me know what I can do
I need to change 2 tires and snow is coming soon

Thanks

Check your trunk. There is a slot right next to your Jack. Dealer should have placed the key in there. (From the side, it looks just like a socket)

If you can't find it, you should go back to the dealer and tell them to get you a replacement key; otherwise, tell them to take it off and replace it with a new one.

I agree. Look in the trunk & if it's not there, go to the dealer. They will be able to take it off. If your car is fairly new, they should give you a brand new set. Just hope you don't get a flat.

I bought from a used car dealer and not replacement offered?

I have not check the trunk yet. Wish me luck.

Anyone know how much I would be charged to take all 4 off?

When they ake off with force does something also break besides the lock?

How can I tell if it's an aftermarket lock or an Acura lock?

Does anyone know where in Queens, NY or nearby that could help me out?

Thanks

Honda is actually selling a repackaged McGuard, if you can't find the key and dealer doesn't have one for you. They should use a tool that can unscrew the lock without the key, they gota have that. Then buy from a set from any chain auto store, it's the same thing.

Your dealer has a master set of wheel lock keys. They can take it off for you, and you can put a new set on so you'll have the key. Alternatively, the stud can be cut off if a key can't be found. It'll cost just a few $ to put a new stud in then. Before I bought my wife a TL, she drove a Grand Am with wheel locks. One of the locks got stripped so even the key was useless. They just cut off the stud on the other side of the wheel (easy to do while on a lift), put on a new stud, and a new set of wheel locks. Piece of cake.

Hey do you think they can put a new stud in those quick tire replace locations?

How much do you figure for each stud?

Thanks

No need to cut off any studs. Just go to your local dealer or a local mechanic. They will be able to take it off. Wheel locks can be taken off without the 'original' key. They are a deterrent for thieves but aren't foolproof.

A local tire shop will most likely pound a socket over the wheel lock and take it right off. Of course you will have to bring a replacement for that lug nut. I personally never liked wheel locks. Then again, I really doubt most people would wasted their time trying to steal stock rims/tires.

Hahaha oh really?

Go price yourself an Acura Wheel at your dealership, you will be throughly surprised .

pounding a socket onto the wheel lock can remove the lock and render it unsable, but at least the lock ocomes off. as for folks not bothering with stock rims?...not sure what planet you are on, but folks I know have lost stock honda/acura aluminum rims alot, and at closts of 250-35 a wheel, it can set you back a pretty penny.

Maybe if I lived in an area high in theft, I would be more concerned. Also, you can get a whole set off of eBay for around $300-$500. Well, again, that goes for '99-01 rims.

If someone around here (where I live) is going to risk stealing rims, they won't waste their time on stock ones.

A regular mechanic can take those off, but you will end up buying a new set.
