Whats your sweetspot?

For highway MPG that is lol. 60-65Mph? Going on a trip this weekend and i want to save as much gas as i can just using cruise control, no speeding and trying to avoid as many stops as i can.

Anything i should check before i go on the road trip? Going roughly 200 to my destination and prob another 100 or so going around and another 200 going back home.

Tire pressure should be at?

I roughly get 16/17 mpg city and unsure of highway, trying to test it this weekend to confirm.

I think it's 32psi spec. For MPG, I would go 35-37psi.

65mph will get good mpg. 60mph will get a little better, but not by much.

Speed limit here is like 75-80 going to my destination but at those speeds i kill gas quick.. going 30miles at those speeds kills a couple notches for me when i bring my sis to work and back LOL.

I always drive -5 Speed limit so in a 80 hwy would be 75mph.. I have calculated and there is roughly no difference VS 60-65mph... The old Type-S always gets +26mpgs at 75.

As for tire pressure (opening a can of worms here), I keep them at at least 80% of maximum pressure. So for the stock tires it would be 32 psi (80% of 40 psi). For my current tires I keep it around 41 psi (80% of 51 psi).

The highest mpg I ever had was using cruise control around 75 mph. I don't think there was anything special about the speed. The crucial thing in my mind was that traffic was very light, so I almost never hit the brakes or gas in a five hour period. At that time I got 41 mpg (but the car was still only a year or two old, I don't know if ethanol was around yet, and very little traffic). I've never had mileage that great since, but I've never driven in conditions like that since either.

Even hybrid couldn't do 41mpg. Tire pressure depends on the tire brand, model and weight in the car. some have firm sidewalls, and some have software sidewalls. General rule of thumb is just in theory, reality is different for every car. As long as you dont feel too rough, too soft, and visually it does not look squishy, tires look balance on the road surface, then it is good. Over pressure of the tire specs will blow it. All this require experimence and adjustments over time. I had one brand that was perfect at 39psi, and on another brand it had to be at 41psi; just a little rough is perfect for mpg, the car can roll by itself with minimal drag when you push the car.

Take a bicycle example, if you just walk the bike, even low pressure, it does not feel much drag, but if you ride the bike, then you will feel the drag, and +/- drag depends on the weight.

I would do tire pressure at 35-36 psi, that's what I used to run on my 17" wheels. I would also try to keep it around 65-70. I wish I could usually I'm doing around 80+

Just face it, our cars suck in terms of MPG.

Last weekend I went on a trip (900 miles), averaged about 31mpg. Tire pressure was set to 37psi, average speed 70mph.

for extended high speed (freeway trip) set tires to MAX COLD SPEC
will improve mpg and better for tire

seafoam in gas
fresh oil

Told yah da old good TL doesnt give a crap about Speed in Highway it saves a ton of Gas, Only in city is where it kicks you in the b...... Next time set CC to 75mph save you some time and it doesnt change your MPGs, Works also with 80mph.

FYI 26-27mpg is my Average combined (City/Hwy), In highway I always get +30MPGs.. In city I get over 21MPGs.
I always set my tires for city at 35PSI and 40 for Highway...

ROFL at 41MPGs.... I think not even with Pure Race track Diet (And I mean Extreme Diet) would get that....

Wind Resistance, Hill Grading, and Momentum. The faster the speed, is the better for the momentum with cruise control. Getting 220 at half the tank is perfect for mpg; your mpg is as good as it can be.
