Hey guys,

My nephew has a 03 Type S and last night he heard a nasty popping noise and seen this thing fly out and now he can't move his car. The car also rolls while in park. Was thinking a shift cable issue? Does anyone recognize this? It looks like a partial part #.

I'm pretty sure that piece is supposed to be part of the CV axle on the passenger side.

 

I think dabu's right. The symptoms fit for a broken axle, and there's no way that damper could come off intact without the axle breaking.

 

super thanks guys. Would that cause the other symptoms of the car to continue to roll while in Park?

 

If the CV axle snapped and is no longer connecting the wheel to the transmission then the car will roll.

Like TLer trash said, if that rubber damper piece came off in one piece then chances are the axle snapped in half and the rubber piece just fell off.

Good news is that's it's not that expensive or hard to change out a CV axle, just be careful when buying one though as the passenger side axle is longer than the drivers side one.
