What's the difference betwen the Type S mufflers and regular mufflers?
Okay, so after 168k miles my driver's side muffler is starting to leak on my '99 3.2TL. The local muffler shops are saying the muffler is $350 to $500 for the muffler... I've found the oem mufflers at oemacuraparts.com for considerably less... like $180 or so. It looks like the mufflers are the same from '99 through '03, except they do list a slightly different part number for the Type S muffler - and it's a bit cheaper. Does anyone know what the difference is between the regular and Type S muffler???

I don't think there is much difference really. I think the muffler inlet on the TL-S maybe 2.25" apposed to 2" for the tl-p, but I may be wrong. Don't bother wasting your money on expensive OEM muff's when you can get aftermarket muff's like magnaflows for less and they look and sound a lot better. It won't be loud if you keep your stock exhaust resonator and piping so don't be worried to go done that road.

The only thing I can think off the tl-s has 2 resonator and tl-p has 1
If I be you get a aftermarket exhaust or a catback.
Make the car sounds better.
That what I'm going to do if I need a muffler on the car

I don't really want to change the sound or tone of the car at all... i'd be fine with the stock muffler. Are there aftermarket mufflers that don't change the sound at all, that look and sound OEM?

Cuz I don't think there have any aftermarket exhaust will sound like factory (no sound), and looks like stock muffler
