What's the deal with the fuel gage?

I have an 03 TL and the fuel gage seems a little whacky. I filled it up when the light came on and I only put 13 gallons in. That would mean that there is almost 4 gallons in the reserve?

Anyone else notice that the gage does not seem accurate?

That's about right. The light comes on when there is about 3-4 gallons left in the tank. In what way does that not make it "not accurate"? Would you rather have the light come on when it's got less than 1 gallon left?

I never understood why people care so much about gas mileage...after you buy the car there is not much you can do about improving it...unless you just keep track for your own personal enjoyment. If thats the reason i would seek help

try driving a chrystler, when there low fuel light comes on you better be by a gas station cause if your not your walkin. i dont think 3-4 galons left in the tank is that bad. the needle on mine is around 1/8 tank when it comes on and there is usually 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 galons when it does. i can usually drive around 60 miles when mine comes on.

I can understand writing fuel expenses and mileage off on your taxes, but what does calculating gas mileage have to do with it? I'm pretty sure all you need are your gas receipts and mileage reports. Why would you need to know your gas mileage for tax purposes?

there are plenty of people that like to know what gas mileage they are getting. That way they can adjust their driving style accordingly. Sometimes it depends on the mood.

In my 99 TL If I floor the car everywhere I go the worst mileage I can get is around 19 MPG. If I baby the car everywhere I go the best mileage I can get is around 25-26 MPG. If I go on a long trip out of town the mileage goes a little higher to around 27-28 MPG.

Jay, please contribute something usefull next time... THANK YOU

I have to get used to but this is how the TLs work, what I do since we have dual trip, as soon as the low gas light comes on I reset trip A so based on the lowest mpg I know that I can drive about 60 miles (knowing that I always have aprox. 3 gal. when the light comes on).

Clever idea. Although remember that the fuel pump is submerged in the tank and uses the fuel for both cooling and lubrication. Running the tank almost empty on a regular basis may shorten the fuel pump life.

Tracking mileage data can be useful in uncovering problems with a car. My opinion is that it's useful information to the driver, and can be easily tracked if you set up a spreadsheet.
