You can activate a PayPal account if you have a checking account. You don't need a credit card, and PayPal prefers that you use your checking account, probably so they can avoid credit card fees, but they still charge the person accepting the money the same regardless of how the PayPal account was funded. Now if you don't have a checking account...then maybe you shouldn't be driving...

i work at a bank and you need to be at least 18 years old in most states to have a checking or savings account, but you can get a minor acccount setup with the help of your parents and then you can use paypal.

The guy above took the words out of my mouth. I wanted to open up an acount in Chase Bank but have to be 18. Sure I could have opened an acount at another bank but I don't like dealing with crap [banks]
I don't get it....what would happen to the $30 you put in a security envelope?

And for those of you who can't find a way to pay Tim, ask him this question, "Hey Tim do you accept Monopoly money?"

well thats the law they have i guess they thought they didn't want kids to start debt in a early age and since their parents would be responsible for them until 18.

Are you sure about that? If that's the case, then how does PayPal make any money off of transactions that are funded through bank accounts?

Also, I personally think that it is a bunch of crap that banks won't allow people under 18 to open up a checking account. Their money is just as good as anyone elses. If anyone can't get a PayPal account, I will be more than willing to pay for them as long as I am reimbursed.

I'm pretty sure bank acct. funds are free as the real fees that PayPal has to pay is for credit card charges. Also, Personal PayPal accts., which can only receive bank acct. and/or PayPal balance funds and not credit cards, are FREE. Premier accts. can receive credit cards AND are charged. I have a Premier acct. and can't remember being charged for receiving bank/balance funds.

Also, I'm under 18 and have a savings account. Last time I checked you can be any age for a savings account. PayPal accepts either savings or checking for registration.

You are correct...I just checked this out and the holder of a personal account cannot receive credit card payments, but only payments from other checking accounts, and is not charged for receiving payments.

So if you don't have a checking account and under 18, open up a savings account and get a PayPal account like AgentDSS recommends.

You managed to get your hands on a 30K car, and you are still under 18 years of age. I'm sure you will find a way to pay the 30 bucks membership.

HUM. mabye its because banks can't prosecute a minor if they bounce a check and can't pay the debt.

So if your 16 or 17 you cant drive a car.

Man you people need to get your facts staight instead of talking out of your a$$.

I guess I forgot that money is more important than human life. Driving, IMO, is a far greater responsibility than being able to have a checking account. If the law deems people responsible enough to be on the roads with the potential of taking another human life, irregardless of how, i.e. drinking and driving, lack of experience, etc...then it would just make sense that something so non-life threatening as having a checking account should be permissable as well.

I'm not saying that 16 and 17 year olds shouldn't be allowed to drive, but that they should be allowed to have checking accounts.

Speaking of which...maybe you should follow your own advice:

HUM. mabye its because banks can't prosecute a minor if they bounce a check and can't pay the debt.
Banks won't prosecute anyone for bouncing a check. They just assess a fine of $25 or whatever nominal amount they charge for an insufficient fund fee and do not pay the funds to the payee. It is up to the payee to pursue the payer for retribution of the funds. Also, with most banks, the payee is also charged a fee for attempting to cash a check that is from an overdrawn account, even though they did nothing wrong! I guess the bank wins no matter what...

Yah in your opinion which means nothing. Minors can drive cars but not have checking accounts whether you like it or not.
