There is a checklist that they go by on what they need to do. But I don't think balancing is necessary if it is a new car, unless it is used.
Some things that come to mind is basically clean the exterior of the car and make sure everything that you agreeded on the contract is there.

clean both exterior and interior, check fluids and gas, and make sure all the accesories you bought are on the car, and call you

They check the lights, horn, AC /heat.
They check cruise control wipers ect.
I remember my car had about 6miles on it when I first saw it.When I went to pick it up a day & a half later it had 10.

one thing that my dealer did before I was allowed to leave the lot with my new car was about a 20 minute training session on how to use EVERYTHING in the car. I had to sign off that he showed me how to use every feature and that I had no questions. I didn't mind at all though.
