Use what is recommended. 91! Your engine and performance will thank you.

Honestly what do you save between regular and premium. 3 bucks or less at around 15 gallons. Thats 1 gallon of fuel extra. the difference in mileage i have seen using regular is more than the difference. Not worth it for me.

a small amount better on 93- the car is really made to run on 93 but rated at 91 as thats available in most states
Anyone know the real reason why some states are 91 and other 93?
altitude?
can you imagine- something I dont know!
I still run a fuel cleaner now and then -- redline or seafoam, on 91
try to get tier 1 when possible
Ethanol E10 gas we are forced into now really sucks for combustion and byproduct residue on the pistons

And the pole has been edited for 93

Yep, I looked into the search function. The 2nd Gen community has about one post a year with the word "octane" in the subject line. I guess this is my turn. Where would any forum be without newbies, huh?
Best I can tell, my 9.8 compression engine has no ill effects on 87. However, I remember taking a spirited road trip in my 850 Turbo, on Supreme, and how smoothly the engine seemed to run.
After this tank, I'll move up the the recommended octane. I can totally believe the bit about 10% more expensive, but 10% better MPG.

i use premium, the highest octane the gas station has. i think its 91 at WaWa and 93 at shell gas station. i use those two gas stations the most.
also it clearly says not only in your owner's manual but on the gas holder door itself that "this vehicle requires premium fuel only". i remember when i read that when i got the car. i put premium in it and it was acting weird and idling really weird. i soon came to find out after 2 or 3 fill ups of premium fuel the previous owner was using a lower octane!
glad i made the switch because i can definitely feel the power than when i first had the car.
this is last year to so when had the car for a week i immediately saw that and made the switch!

up here in Canada the price for premium fuel costs about 14-15 cents extra/litre so at 60 litre fill ups thats an extra $9 over regular. That adds up over a year. We get scammed here on fuel prices.

94 Sunoco only! (Canada) Never ever anything lower. It doesn't make sense not to, since ive noticed that on lower octane fuel i loose mileage and performance (like many people have mentioned above). And over a year it's going to add up to what? $300? Out of that $200 could be redeemed through higher octane gas.

at first i put in 87 and it def. felt weaker at start up and mileage seemed slightly decreased. i've been using 93 since but my dad recently put in 87 and it seems fine? w/e i put in 91 now cause this gas station near my house carries it (rare in nyc) and it's slightly cheaper than 93.

93 or bust...
87 is for clunker trucks and early 90's civics.
all 3 of my honda/acura cars have only been treated to 93..
nobody should buy cheaper gas to save money, your not really saving anything..what? 2-3 bucks on a full tank? you can buy a 2 liter coke with that cash! congrats!

^there have been studies where it shows you don't need premium in most of the new cars, it's just a waste...not saying the TL is one of them but you def. dont need it in any hondas except maybe s2000.

Sure they can run on it, BECAUSE the ECU will adjust timing accordingly to operate with it. Even the TL manual states you can. BUT it wont run optimally because the ECU has been programmed to run the motor optimally on 91. Car and driver did a test a few year back with a Odyssey with Premium and Regular. It was over 1 sec slower in the 1/4 with regular. Like stated above Many have seen a reduction in mileage (and with the poor city mileage of these cars wouldnt you want whats best) For most, you arent saving any thing by running it. Most in the long run loose more by running it. (I lost running it. This is coming form someone that has to fill his tank EVERY DAY so i know what adds up for me)

i dont get why people would want less power, worse mileage, and end up paying more $ for 87 in the long run. just use the correct fuel, 91/93. this topic has been beaten to death on this board, and i don't feel like arguing with people, just my
