What kind of system do you have?
In the near future (next month or so) I'll be investing in a car audio system for my 00 TL-P and I'm curious to what other members have, and how much each part of the system was etc...
For me, I'd LIKE my next system to be:
Nav/Dvd head unit
components in the front
maybe keep the factory rears (just used for fill anyway right?)
Sub, amp
I'm thinking maybe I could run the door speakers off of the head unit, and just get one amp for the sub....
I'd like to spend under 1k for all of that, and I don't mind used really....
So, whats your system???
(mods please don't move to the other a/v forum...its a ghost town in there... )

Yeah...with my finances thats PROBABLY the way I should go as well. I just need a bit more bass in my life, but a better headunit wouldn't hurt either. My boy has an es300 with the Mark Levinson audio system...sounds incredible.

Oh Hullow
alpine cda 9856 head unit... mb quart components in the front, mb quart mids in the back, pioneer amp powering the speakers .. 2 10 inch mtx subs in the trunk and a power acoustik amp powering that... took me about 6 months to get the dough up for that but well worth it ... subs were free from an acquaintance who installed the whole thing for me.. or i wouldve invested in some kickers on jl subs... either switch everything or save your money i was running an aftermarket sub and amp off my stock system for a while it sucked imo.

my mom got an "upgrade" option from the dealer when she bought the 00 tl and i have no idea wut it is (it still says bose). I get good base but the the base is really concentrated in the back (backseat cant even listen to the music when its all the way up). Is it supposed to be like this or is it just a bad system???

Upgraded system? Hmmmm...I've never heard of that, and its not mentioned in the FAQ either, but maybe its something they did at the dealer? I don't have bass like that from my "factory" system....

I spent somewhere around about $3500. But I also had that system in my previous car. So it took me about 4-5 yrs to get everything.

2 type R 12's in the trunk 2+2ohm
Alpine 1000w mono running the subs
1 Stinger Battery
1 farod cap
4 gauge wiring @ Everything is dynomatted...All Doors, Trunk, Back Bumper ect ect..
If you wanna stay cheap....Keep it Factory inside & add 1-2 12"s with a good Amp
Make sure to dynomat the trunk so it doesnt sound gettofied...
Then you can change out the inside when you get more money

i have 6.5 component mb quartz in the front (around $120 for the pair) and 5.25 mb quartz in the back (about $90 for the pair) and a 6-channel infinit amp (about $200) and i have yet to put in a sub, which is my next step...my advice would be to change the entire system instead of adding on...speakers arent too expensive for nice ones, and u should run them through an amp, not the head unit...as for subs, from what ive been told, u have to have real sharp ears to notice the difference between a high end and an average sub..so if ure jsut looking for thump, dont go overboard with that...

I wanted perfect vocals with the cleanest bass. You cant cut corners when doing this. And Yes I do consider myself a Audiophile. You should see my home system. Audio has always been a passion. Also If u are in my car and step out I hardly have any rattles. And I also believe in you pay for quailty I have had the same system in my TL since 2002. With the only change being Components and changing to a 16 volt preout eclipse unit.

If you've got it, I'm not mad at you for it. I'm just trying to imagine what it could possibly sound like. In my mind, its kind of like computers. If I spend 2k on computer, it would have EVERYTHING I could possibly want, do anything and everything I could think of, and have a huge monitor. If I spent 5k on a computer, what would it do better for me than the 2k one? Can your ears actually tell the difference between 5k and 10k worth of sound system? I have my own indulgences too that I spend money one when I really don't have to...just trying to understand

These soud great! It would be even greater if they had pics!! I'm getting things together and installed. Planning out the box now. I've got all of the wiring and rca. I'm just a little worried about what people are saying about the stock headunit. I'm not to happy with the idea of getting the comps in and them sounding like crap!
Planet Audio 4 channel
Elemental Designs 6000v.2 6.5" comps (tweets, mids, crossovers)
Elemental Designs 9k.v2 8" subwoofer (I've got one now, maybe getting two)

5 Channels are great. I have installed a couple of those in differ car. I highly rec. them if you are not going for window blasting sound.

I have an Alpine/infinity system.
two Alpine amps. one for highs and the other for low.
two Alpine type-s subs
infinity components in front and Alpine type-s in back.
All powered by an Alpine (True pre-outs) headunit.
Along with a custom carputer with 7inch touchscreen built in to the dash.
It's super clear and really loud without that nasty clipping. I didnt spend much and I love it.
