Well kid, it calls for 5W-20 in the manual but I only know of one or two companies that make that weight in synthetic. Did it come with it from the factory? I doubt it. The manual just says to leave the original oil in there for 7,500 miles. Don't get me wrong, I think synthetic oil is a good thing. Just not too early in the engine's life. Synthetic oil is sooooo slippery that it will not allow the piston rings, valve seats etc....to perfectly mesh together to form a tight fit. Regular oil will alow this to happen just fine.

So I would (as I am planning to do) use regular oil the first two rounds (original + one more) and THEN use the synthetic.

How many miles on the car..??
If you usualy go to a quick lube kind of place.. find one that has Mobil1, I recommend the 5W30 (I know Mobil is comming out with a 5W20... not sold on it yet...)
If you can do the oil change yourself (which will be cheaper),
Mobile is still a good choice or Redline/RoyalPurple/Amsoil/Scheaffer althoug more expensive.
Synthetics only for all my vehicules.

My car has 13800 miles on it - it will b one year old July 1, 2003.
I got an EARLY edition 03 TLP.

The oil in my car now is NOT synthetic - but the guy put in what the car calls for.

I guess all is well right?

I'm just nervous.

P.S. I can't change oil myself - I don't know how, and ewaaaa I would end up all dirty and yucky (My BF actually offered, but I told him since it was my dad's treat I would feel better taking it somewhere - even though I don't feel better.)

How can the oil last for 7500 miles if it is regular?
This is my THIRD oil change since I got the car.
The first two I had done at the dealership - but it's too far out of the way to do when I don't have the spare time to take it out there!!!

I change the oil myself and use Valvoline Synthetic 5w 30 every 4k. I would never let reg or syn oil sit in my car for 7500.

Acura wants you to do it so the car won't last as long and you will have to buy a new one sooner. My .02...

people say to change the oil (dyno) every 3K miles, but most quality oils can last you up to 5K or more depending on your conditions and driving style.

synthetic or dyno is all the same as far as weight goes...just use the right weight and you're okay.

I dont know what kind of oil goes in my car... I take it to Acura and for all I know they could be putting canola oil in there. Actually once I did take it to Jiffy Lube and had a synthetic treatment done, but then I got all kinds of horror stories and these little buggers --> (for going to jiffy lube in the first place) and decided to start going back to the dealer! LOL

i just stick to regular ol oil (castrol) never any thing other than that and change it every month (usually around 4-5000 +- miles) i have let it go longer 7500 like they recomend and the oil wasnt that bad looking compared to other cars ive owned that at 3000 miles the oil looked like sludge. it all depends on the driving conditions, mine is mostly (95%+-) hwy.if its alot of city , stop and go i would change it sooner

Only 13,800 for 1 year of driving??? Was this a standby drive?

Hell I have almost that many miles in 3 months.

Hey...Acura tells me 7500 miles. That's what I'm doing. Can't go wrong with a $20 oil change with free inspection and car wash from the dealer. You'll end up spending $10-15 on the filter and oil. Then you got old oil left. You'll end up spending over 2 hrs on it (from buying stuff, changing, getting rid of oil, showering). To me, it's a deal to get it changed at the dealers for $20.

I dont care what oil they put in...im leasing! If the car dies the day after I give it back...not my fault.
