Question What does resonator do?

Hi all,
What exactly does resonator do?? You HAVE TO remove it when you install intake? or you don't have to?? from what i notice some people remove it even without AEM... I believe it's there for a reason. so what the pro and con for removing it? thanks.

In short the resonator helps quiet the sound of the air getting sucked into the engine. Therefor, restricting air flow. If you install an AEM intake, the resonator will need to come out.

Hope this helps

Basically, it helps your car drive quieter, like PhiTL said. Most of the ppl that buy luxury sedans do not want the cars to be loud (or with any other car). Performance enthusiasts such as ourselves are very rare and are the minority of the demographic!

PROS: Less restrictive (ie., more power)
CONS: Louder

Ppl w/o AEM CAI take them out for the reason above... more power.

oh yea, you can also do the ghetto intake system and just remove the resonator like I did. It seems to have added some more power but also sounds pretty awesome.

Or as I see it:
Pros:
- Increased power
- Stock sound during normal driving
- Race car like growl during hard acceleration or WOT.
- Its free
Cons:
- Probably not as effective as an AEM Intake.
