Angry What do you pay for gas?....

Well, filled up my gas tank for the first time. Cost me $35 dollars. They are really starting to gouge the consumers here in the San Francisco Bay Area. I paid $2.36/gallon for premium, worse yet the predictions are that it could reach $3.00 plus by summer.

Just curious if others are starting to see the increases or is it just us lucking people in California.

I know what you are talking about... I think the Bay has the most expensive gas prices in the country along with rent, houses, etc...

Down in the south bay it's about 2.20-2.25 /gal premeium.

I fillup on my way to bowling in Fremont only 2.09. Not much better but...

I have to get what's available I guess, there have been many debates on which kind of gas is good but my personal preference is what they say in the manual 92.

I hope it doesn't go up much more cuz I plan to do quite a bit of driving this summer.

Seems like others are going up but not as drastically as where we live. LA is about 0.10 cheaper, and Sacto is about 0.15 less.

$1.74 for Premium in Raleigh, North Carolina. It's leveled out the last few days from $1.79. I thought that was bad, but compared...OUCH!

Here in Minnesota gas price went from $1.60 about 2 weeks to $1.95 today.

I'm not sure why all the price hike since the oil import price have not changed.

Oil companies are definitely taking advantage of us consumers.

To make things worse, after getting about 450+ miles on my first tank (mostly highway driving), I'm now getting about 300 miles before fillup.

I've been travelling a bit but seems like West coast is cheaper than East Coast, at least in Canada anyway. Standard unleaded 87 octane gas prices are:

Vancouver - .70/L = $1.87/Gal
Vancouver East - .56/L = 1.45/Gal
Calgary - .64/L = 1.65/Gal
Toronto - .78/L = 2.02/Gal

Get ready to pay more as the summer months comes along. I blame this on all the freaking SUVs which created such a demand.

Between $1.87 and $1.91 in Downey, Long Beach area of LA. Gas prices are way too high and for NO reason. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about it. If it were just tuna fish, we could stop buying it. But who among us is going to (or even can) stop buying gas? At what point do we finally start riding bikes or the bus - $3/gallon? Gas prices have doubled in the last year or so and it is simply criminal. The oil companies need to be regulated and punished!

I miss the day when I was in Purdue Univ.

Back in jan 1997, Exxon premium was $0.99. Regluar gas was $0.69.

Out in Fremont, the price is now $2.09. My last fill up in my 530i is $40.

Good thing is that my bimmer's gas mileage is about 10-20% better than TL.

Kind of puzzling since the TL is lighter.

Have you guys and girls heard or seen any Emails about boycotting Mobil / Exxon?? The hope, according to the Email that hit my in-box, is to hit the biggest where it hurts. Not to use that brand of gas this summer at all. As there supply swells, because of deminished demand, they will hopefully lower their prices, with others following suit. I don't know if it'll work, but I won't buy Mobil / Exxon this summer unless nothing else is around and my new Satin Silver baby is sucking fumes!

You guys are so full of sh**! Quit ragging on the oil companies. It sounds like all you guys have been indoctrinated into the Ralph Nadar "corporations are evil" club.

Doesn't anyone remember that OPEC cut back production something like 20% a couple months ago? We didn't feel much of an impact then, but now as we approach the summer, when energy usage always increases, the demand is outrunning the supply. Also, I hear that a lot of the problem is there are not enough refineries to keep up with the demand.

As for that stupid boycott email, I have seen that half a dozen times in the last 2 years. It's a bunch of crap. And why pick on Exxon/Mobil? Around here, Exxon is always about 10 cents cheaper than any of the other major brands like Shell or Texaco.

There was a fire in one of the gas refineries in St. Louis over the weekend. They're operating at HALF capacity for the next few weeks, so that'll hit the Midwest, most notably Chicago area I'm sure.

The biggest reason for the increase is all the freaking 10-15mpg S-freakin-UV's out there increasing the demand!! I hope it forces Expedition owners to trade-in their huge pieces of steel for something less gas-guzzling..

Just ranting...

I guess I am one of the luckier ones, I paid around $180 per gallon. One thing I have to find out though, The Type-s takes 91 Octane, I can't find it anywhere!!!! I can only find 87, 89, 93, 94. Do you think if I can mix half 93 with half 89 and get the 91?

Absolutely you can mix the 89 and 93 50/50 to get 91. Kind of a pain though.

Personally, I think whenever you buy gas they should at least give you a kiss so you know you've been screwed!

Sure glad for Desert Storm, this is how they repay you.

Wow, lot of different prices out there. Hopefully we don't go much higher in the Bay Area.

For everyone else... enjoy the somewhat reasonable prices your paying. but beware... you may catch up to California at some point.

After paying $350+/mo for natural gas for heating during the winter now I got to put up with another summer of $2.00+/ga of gas? What a rippoff this is.

Why the heck is the gas price going up!? Aren't the big oil companies happy with their 80% profit increases?!!!

We love to pick out who we envious the most. Just like Bill Gates. I believe Exxon is one of the top 10 company in use (Revenue wise). And I believe a recent study say their gas pollute the air the most.

But hack, I've using it for years. It seems to be the best performing gas out there.

As for oil supply, trust me, I work in the oil industry, in Alberta Canada alone, we have enough oil sand to supply all of North America for at least 100 to 200 years. But the problem is, it takes time to process oil sand to reach the market. For OPEC, they just have to turn on the tap and cash in.

Understand, but to save a couple of bucks a week the mix doesn't sound too bad.

Geez, so that's why all the oil companies are reporting record profits. Was it Exxon who reported the highest profit in the history of the world for last year? And I thought it was because they saved money cutting the supply of Twinkies on the buffet in the corporate boardroom.
