What to do when the trans goes south.

Hey guys, The dreaded trans failure happened to me on our 02 TL-S @31k. I was in a bad part of town and it really bothered me but I learned something. Trouble is that my 2nd gear clutch pack slipped so bad in the full auto mode that all I got was revving. (too fast to be in 1st/too slow for 3rd). I got the warning lights as all you guy said I'd get so it all made sense. Here is the trick I learned...stop on the side of the road, shift to 1-2 position. You can limp home to a speed of about 40-45 tops this way(not sport shift). If you are on the level shift to D3 as you let off the gas and it may shift to second. You can then shift up if you are lucky, if not stop, go back to 1-2 and limp home. I wish I had known this trick sooner as it allowed me to avoid towing and gave me some comfort. BTW, the trans is shot Tischer Acura says and I learned that the reason that they shift different now is they are eliminating some slip..just like a "shift kit" you add to your Chevelle! This will make the clutch pack last longer he said. He also said that the " recall" for second gear lubrication, is done on the new trans. I will have a rental car for a week and I have a Jaguar X type. It is cute looking but I wouldn't trade even-up for this car over my TL-S. Cheers, QuickRick. p.s. Good news is the car didn't fail driving home 900 miles from Mom's for Christmas Wednesday.
