Okay, perhaps a stupid question, and not to jack the thread, but what the heck does SSM stand for?

SSM...i believe Satine Silver Metallic....im not sure, i have an NBP.

for bulbs stick to Phillips or Omran, and do not go over 6000Ks, since your stock housing will not support higher than 6000K for a long time.

Purpulish hue does however require like 8000K or so.

Bulbs color shift over time. A new 4300K bulb and a 4 year old 4300K bulb will look a lot different (the older will be a lot bluer). That is why Philips makes 5000K bulbs. They are used as replacements for colorshifted 4100K bulbs.

I would stick with Osram/Philips bulbs. If you really want more blue/purple color (and less overall light), I would get the 6000K and leave them on ALL the time until they colorshift. It should give you the color you are looking for plus you will have the durablilty of a Philips bulb vs the cheaper asian bulbs on the market.

The problem with non-OEM bulbs are that they can say whatever thay want to about their Kelvin rating. Who is going to know or measure it? That is why you get 10K bulbs that look blue!! Around 12K, you are approaching black light status!! And you know how much light a black light throws off! Good luck.

that would be interesting to put in 12ks and see what it would be like....without fogs....prolly be as bright as your parking lights...

i saw a civic behind me a few days ago with PURPLE HIDs....they were real...and they were really purple too.....i'm guessing it was 12k...

That's part of the problem. One company's 12K may be another company's 6K. At least with Philips bulbs, you know what you are getting. But hey, if you want less light for way more money, go for it!

i love my 6000ks more and more when i pulled up next to a car that has stock hids and the color looks like regular halogens lol

A lot of it has to do with how our eyes see the blue. They are more sensitive to blue light so we think they are brighter. Driving long distances with bluer bulbs tends to tire the eyes quicker, too. Also, the difference in output is less noticeable with D2R. D2s 4x00K=3200 lumens. D2R lumens=2800 lumens. 6000K=2400 lumens.

Some good readinghttp://faq.auto.light.tripod.com/hl-hid-bulbs.htm if anyone is interested:

it used to be a bit less light with my 8k and plain fogs..........now with 8k headlights, and 8k HID fogs, it's back to normal.....

in the future, when i stop bluing out my car, i could put some 5ks in the head and fog lights, then talk about light output...whoo!

I have stock 4100K which I perfectly aligned with special calculations, it was a long procedure...but my stock resembles 5300Ks now, and the light output is great. http://www.danielsternlighting.com/images/Aim.pdf

My friend has 6000K in his car, we pulled up in a very dark road, parked like 20 feet between us, his headlights did look a little bluer, but my light output was crisp white and much further and wider than his.

I do a lot of driving on highways that have no lights, so I wish I can get higher Ks without the loss of output When Im tired and I cant see the road too well, it is dangerous cauz I get even more tired.

you should get a pair or two of those PIAA HID foglights/driving lights....that'll light up the road like daytime....

For the most part, all OEM HIDs are 4X00K. The bluer lights come from the projectors used in OEM applications.

that standard, and 35W, D2S. I think one member installed custom projections in his headlights, and it was a lot of work. do a search for projection headlights. im too tired to search the forum now.

your 02 headlights are fine as they are, they dont have frost on them like 99-00/1, so as you said with 6000K in them, they will emit beautiful output though with less lumens.

i think you can take the d2s bulbs out and use our d2r bulbs in the 2004 unit because the socket of the bulbs are the same, but the d2s is for projectors and the d2r are for our reflectors.....aint they?

Align the headlights about 2 feet off the ground.

A common procedure is 2 inches for every 25 feet. Have your car on flat surface 25 feet from a wall. Measure from the ground to the bulb. Take that measurement and subtract 2 inches. This should be the height the "hot spot" hits on the wall.
