Question what could the REAL problem be when the SRS light goes on?

Ok i know some people here has said that their SRS light goes on and it's usually the sensor. But what if it's not the sensor?

what would the problem be?

Thumbs up

Mine kept coming on, they kept resetting it. Finally they replaced the driver's airbag. After a month the light came back on. They talked to the factory and decided to replace the cable reel in the steering column. It's been 9 months so far, and it seems to be fine now.

I'll say most of times it's SRS control module. If it's not, it can be anything, like SRS unit, wire, even seatbelt.
Yes, the airbag won't deploy.

There are a bunch of systems tied into the SRS. Having the light on does not preclude an airbag from deplying in an accident. Depending on the type of error it is reporting, the bags still may work. But yes the front seatbelts are tied into the SRS system. Those that have unplugged the wiring harness to remove their seats to install amps underneath etc. will most likely have the SRS light come on once the harness is plugged in again. The warning light activated because the SRS circuitry was messed with--even if only temporarily.

However, bottom line is get it checked. If you absolutely 100% know the cause of the light (such as you had your front seat out), resetting it on your own is fine but if there is any doubt, a trip to the dealer is the wise thing to do.
