First spray down car, use car soap more suds the better, clean paint with a diaper, not a sponge or a mitt, then do sections at a time and rinse without letting suds dry, then do the wheels with a brush and scrub tires as well, remember to do wheel wells, then dry everything off with a shammy (Absorber works great), then wipe out all door jambs, then apply a good coat of wax with a buffer, and them buff out with a high quality cotton terry towel, then go and do all interior and exterior windows with windex, then apply tire dressing and wipe off excess, then vacuum interior, and wipe out all dust in the interior, clean seats and all other untouched surfaces, apply leather protectant and amor all to desired surfaces, (apply to dash only once a year, too much with cause it to discolor and fade) after interior you are done with a sparkly clean car!!

There seems to be a lot of good, downloadable information and "how to" on a wide range of topics at:

Good luck!

That depends on the condition of your car.
These are my steps on the first detailing job of the spring (after a long winter)
1. spray
2. shampoo
3. rinse
4. pre cleaner
5. clay bar (if you use zaino, 4 and 5 need to be switched because zaino's pre cleaner stays through the first coat)
6. 1st coat with your favorite polymer polish
7. wait 24 hours and 2nd coat
8. wait 1 hour and 3rd coat
9. wait 15 minutes and 4th coat (You may have to wait longer if you use zaino, this is the part I love about finish first the most)

If you are waxing....good luck.
If you have a convertible, you may also have to treat the top and plastic rear window.
Oh, don't forget to brush those rims clean with your favorite tire cleaner.
Lastly, put your beautiful wife in the car and take a picture.

Regarding the second coat of polymer finish to be applied 24 hours after the first coat, do you need to rinse/wipe down the car before applying the second coat? I would think after 24 hours, there would some amount of surface contaminants which you probably don't want to "seal" in with the second and all subsequent coats? Or does it not matter?
