What Is The Center Dashboard Knockout?
What Is The Center Dashboard Knockout?
There's a little knockout panel in the center near the base of the windshield...
What is it? I thought it was just a simple knockout panel...but when I yanked it, there's a wire harness attached to it...
This is a source of noise for me...the center panel rubs against the dashboard and created a lot of squeaking... I yanked it to spray a little silicon spray to hopefullly quiet it down...

It was making a lot of noise...when the car hit little ripples in the road, the edges of the sensor chaffed against the dash that it is in contact with...so I had to do something to get rid of the noise...
Weird place to place a temp sensor... Usually, you place a temp sensor out of direct sunlight... Instead, Acura places it in one of the hottest areas?
There are 3 of them in our car ...one in front of the radiator ... two just underneath the ignition key ( little fender ) ..... and free the SUN SENSOR that you did spray ....
third sensor is there 'cause it's a SUN sensor ....

Yeah - it's job is to measure sunlight. You'll notice sometimes that when you go from a shadowy place in thew summer and drive out to where sunlight is directly hitting the sensor - your blower fan will speed up?
That's the sensor doing its job.
As far as I know - there's only one more sensor (a temperature sensor), and it's the little grill-like cover on the dash near your right knee. It's actually hooked to a vacuum line that goes to the fan intake, so the stronger the fan blows - the more air goes over the sensor.
acurabum - where's that 3rd sensor and what's it there for?

I bought my car from a friend last year. While he owned it, the cap on the sunlight sensor popped off. He lost the cap sometime after that. I think it looks bad to have that hole up there and also I suspect the cap being gone is making my A/C be a bit sporadic.
The dealership wants more than $40 to buy a whole new sensor. Does anybody know anything about finding just that cap without the actual sensor?
