What is the Average Gas Mileage for 02 TL Type S?

I recently bought a 2002 TL Type S, love the car but my gas mileage is terrible. I am averaging only 16 miles per gallon. Only about 280 miles per tank. Does anyone else get this bad gas mileage? Is this normal?

To get 16mpg on 280 miles you would need to be putting in about 17 gallons of gas, didn't thnk our tanks were that big, maybe I'm wrong??

I am getting a little more than 18mpg (14.2 gallons and 260 miles)

If you're putting in 17 gallons of gas, thats very very bad for your car.

The tank is only 17.1 gallons

Hum...

For me, it depends on driving more local (Dad going to the busstop to go to work) or more highway (me taking the car out and driving all over the place...), but I'm still getting a lot more than that.

For local, I'm definitely getting more than 300 miles for each tank-- like 320-340 miles per tank (which would be around 19-20 mpg) and for local, probably 400 miles max (23 mpg), but I usually never get the "fill gas" light.

Edit:: But after rereading all the posts above... I'm not so sure anymore that I'm calculating all this correctly.

I have a 99TL and I just filled it up today. I got 23.7 mpg (80% hwy/20% city). I always use the same gasoline station (Shell 91) and pump to get an accurate reading. I've been using redline injector cleaner and it does work. I just finished my first bottle today and I hope I see a significant increase again on the mpg. It used to be only 20 mpg before I started using redline but as I use it every fill-up, I see an increase in mpg. I think the rated mpg for the 99TL is 20/27 so my target is 25

Fill up your tank (full tank until the top off sensor; dont add more) then reset your mileage meter. Go back to the same station/pump on your next fill up (full tank until the top off sensor; dont add more) . Then the mileage reading divided by the gallons (for that fill-up; not your tank capacity) will be your mpg. BTW in my previous post, I'm using AC. Without AC, maybe its a little bit more mpg

When my low fuel light comes on and I fill up, it still only takes just under 14 gallons. I usually get about 400 miles per tank. My commute is about 38 miles each way, 80% highway mileage. Worst mileage I've ever got since I got the '02 TLS in May was about 24 mpg. I was surprised at the mileage I got since I didn't expect it to be so good.
