Hey guys, I a m contemplating purcahsing a 2002 acura 3.2 tl and the SRS light is on, I don't know how to get it off. My biggest question concerns a weird ticking sound coming from the engine. When I have it in idle it is a low sound and when i press on the gas you can still hear it, it is a very faint sound that you can only hear when the hood is open, I've been told by a mechanic friend to put lucas oil in the engine and that should solve the issue. I haven't done that yet I wanted to check and make sure it is not a bigger problem with the car before I actually pay for the car. So should I stay away from the car or should I buy it? Thanks

Don't know if this is the exact cause but my dads car had a strange tick for a while and it seemed related to some electrical problem.

 

Move on, don't buy a car that has the slightest symptom of a major problem. That sound may be comming from the valve train.

Good luck w/ the car if you end up purchasing. You may want to read the pre-purchase questions thread that's on here -- it may give you a few pointers on what to look for.

 

I was going to mention it could be that but I forgot the name of the solenoid at the time. Figured i'd get straight to the point if he hears it even when revving. My purge solenoid ticks also but it goes away with a quick rev.

 

He hears it when revving w/ the hood open...I can't hear it when I rev my engine with the hood closed...but can still hear a little w/ the hood open. Who knows...it could be something else too. I was get it checked out by a mechanic before you buy it - that's what I did.

 

It may be a simple case of the valves needing adjustment or a very small exhaust leak

is our gen 2 moderator and guru. He got tired of wearing out auto transmissions, 5 in 200k miles, and dropped a 6 speed in- his word is THE word around these parts

Kris- the ticking I asked about a few weeks ago with the usual response of maybe its valves- well its just the tensioner pulley for the accessory belts
Wasnt rythmic enough to be a valve loose and the visual check showed lots of movement and the stethascope said- this is the problem!

thats the warranty center- give them the VIN and say you are looking to buy

Has transmission been replaced-??? any outstanding issues- other extended warranties in effect like the SRS sensor etc
A car with a replaced trans is a good thing!
Have the car checked- especially the brakes
