Exclamation Weird stalling (?) problem?

Hey all, nice to join ya on this forum. I could use some insight on this weird issue I'm having with my '01 TL. My car has just about 200k miles on it, and it's pretty solid other than a few issues. I bought it second hand about 3,000 miles ago and I believe this has been happening since I got it. It seems like it only happens when it's idling and I have AC/heater on.

When idling with my AC or heater on, my car will stall for a split second every 30 seconds or so. When this happens it feels like the engine dies for a second then comes right back on. All of my dash/interior lights dim when this happens, then go right back. I haven't noticed it when driving, and when I shut off the heater/AC it doesn't seem to happen as much if at all.

Any ideas? It's scary feeling and my only source of transportation to work...

TIA!

Hmmm. Wonder if it is related to the cycling of the AC compressor which would be about every 30 seconds. And the AC compressor cycles the cooling fan, so there is a good current draw when it happens. That would point to electrical problems under load. Maybe the battery or the cables/grounds? Just a guess.

Welcome to the forum joecc.

Has your car been modified in any way? Does it have an underdrive pulley?

I think the 2 potential areas for you to look at are:

1) IACV - may need to be cleaned or replaced. You can DIY for cheap.
2) Low engine output. Check air filter, plugs, coils. Plugs should be replaced every 100K with ONLY NGK Irridium IX (about 6-7 bucks each). You may need to replace your Oxygen Sensor 1. BTW Our TLs REQUIRE 91 octane or higher. If the car has been run with less than 91 octane you may need to clean your EGR ports/passages and inspect your catalytic converter.

Hope it helps.
