weird hid fog problem.

I installed my HID fogs and they work fine, i usually heard a slight POP when i turned them on, tonight, it sounded like 3 electric pops in rapid succession.
The fogs didn't turn on.

Any ideas? Does anyone elses system pop when they turn it on?

if its a anything more than a "tick" sounding pop then the igniter or ballast may be going bad. also check out the bulbs, and check for any water damage to any of the HID parts

when you turn the lights on it should not really sound much more than a "tick", not a loud pop

to me it sounds like your ballast and igniter went kaboom

Did the bulbs break? Like gold said, your ballasts/igniter might of went. Check to see if you are getting power.

i figured it was something along those lines. I just got my car rustproofed. The stuff they use is a killer on electronics.

My accord was running fine until i brought it to them, afterwards i was throwing all kinds of codes and my dash was lit up like a christmas tree.

I'll take it apart and keep you guys posted.

check your fog light fuses, if not it could be your ballast/ignitor

^ sounds like a grounding issue try sealing the wiring and connections or just keeping them in a dry area where moisture cant get to it.

i was able to get under the car today. Both balasts are done. The OEM incandescent light still works so I know i'm getting power.

I took the opportunity to make a lil' DIY project phase 1 has been a disaster. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and will keep you updated regardless of the outcome.

I know this is a noob question but how exactly do you know if the ballasts are done? I know I said above to check it but since I donn have HIDs I don't know what to look for.

no such thing as a noob question.

First make sure you still have power. ( i put my stock light in and it lit up)
Then i put the ballast with HID, turned it on, nothing happened.
I have 4 HID lights in total (2 spares) I swapped out the light for a spare, it didn't turn on.

There is very little chance that all 4 HID lights are faulty so I deduced that it is the ballast that is not working.

i have my ballasts for my HID fogs right under the stock headlight ballasts on that front bumper frame ledge, then I have these sleeves that fit over the bulb where it mounts into the housing. I also have electrical tape wrapped around any pigtail connections to make it as less resistant to water and dirt as possible. No issues in nearly 4 years...(knocking on wood hella hard right now)

update to this thread.
I sent the ballasts in, the guy said they were fine. Even though he send back 2 new ones.
he also told me to get a harness, which takes the power off the battery.

Did that, wired it all up, they worked fine. then didnt turn on 2 days later for 2 days. now they are working again.
