Weekend at the track
Well I went back to Hawaii Raceway Park on friday and saturday. Made some small gains but learned alot. I learned that it is truly what's under the hood that gives you your best opportunity not the badge on the trunk. Seeing as how many civics were killing Mustangs. There were more Civs and WRXs than you would believe. As for me I improved all times, I killed numerous Civs and even 5.0* (notice the asterisk, he pulled a 15.46, me 15.41), and got smoked by a 14.3 WRXand a 89 Monte Carlo with a 350. I learned that gateshifting is better on my car not D3 (15.8, 16.3 in D3). I did 15 runs over the weekend. On 7 runs I pulled 15.4s. My best times were 15.20 & 15.28. My r/t was was mostly at .7-.8, which is much better than the 1.3-1.7s I pulled last week. I tried a minor mod by doing the RAM mod. I used flexible tubing into the 'de-resonated' airbox. Other than more engine noise I didn't notice any gains although I did run the 15.20 with it. But run for run no noticible difference. I talked to an Acura Legend bracket race champion who said there's no way to get below 15.0 (without major mods) out here because of the temps (about 80), the humidity and being at sea level. He says no one gets good times out here even the mainland drivers that come over. Sucks but after 18 runs over the last 8 days I'm convinced my car won't go much faster as it is. But once again I had fun and learned alot. I now look forward to running in the mainland, cheaper gas and parts. Any tracks near the Miami area?

Just a bit more. My stock tires look terrible after this. Small chunks missing. I'm sure my times would be much better with better tires and lighter front rims. But its okay 'cause I plan on getting new rims and tires once my car gets to the Mainland.
